koincollektor & peaceslab got "baggy" correct, at least for the meaning I intended.
This could be my one GSA coin.
Good example of "baggy" AND the condition of many of the GSA coins.
It slabbed at MS-62.

Morning, all.

Oooooooo, goodie, goodie, goodie.
For a change the weather today will be ... snow.
Not that snow will be the change.
Just the amount.
Currently we're in the 12-18" area.
A mere dusting compared to the 28" we had last weekend.
Oh, but there'll be another change too.
Wind!!!
Can you spell "blizzard"?

We got our first newspaper since last Friday this morning.

Anyway, with luck we won't lose power.
Haven't yet.

OMG another of this same coin is up for auction now for $70.00. geez! anyhow this picture shows it more accurately of how it looks in real life.

Item number: 250573844637

cool coin, but I liked my #30.59 price better than this $70.00. the funny part is that I was willing to pay up to $80.00 for it. lol

Hi regulars. long time no chat here. been very very busy at work. have slowed my coin buying down to nothing until last night. who wants to hear an incredible story ??? after searching coins shows and Ebay for 10 years for this France coin it finally showed up on Ebay last night and I won the auction. yippy!!!

here it is that Proof 1995 France coin I have been hunting for for 10 years.:

Item number: 180464555003

It has an incredible depth perception. it catalogs for $35.00 and has a mintage of 20,000. relatively small mintage but very hard to find in real life. I can not wait to get it in my hands. Also the "Plaza" show in Vegas in coming up at the end of this month. it is the best/biggest coin show in Las Vegas I can't wait to go see it.

Sounds great GF...I'm probably going to get photos remade of the parks if it will ever dry out again and try to put it back up on ebay. I got a ton of hits back when I ran it the first time but never did get a buyer. It was a LOT of work to get the ad like I wanted it too but I have a lot of the leg work already done and with the new camera I have the processing of photos will be much easier as well. I've pretty much made up my mind that I want OUT of the major portion of the mansion on wheels business and into something that don't require so much time and money all the time. Especially the time part. Really want to have more time to spend with Hump Jr as he gets older and needs more of his Dad around.

baggy = bag marks

coins were stored in large bags and the result was just coins contacting other coins. that results in nicks and dings, etc....may still be uncirculated, but contact marks lower the unc grade to the 60-62 level. jmho.

Posted by   ( ) on Feb-08-10 at 19:29:41 PST   Listings
GF...not sure if DC is down and out for the night or not. I will be shortly myself, but baggy in the instance DC was talking about meant that the Morgan dollars had a lot of bag marks which are marks that the Morgans got from being moved around in the 1000 coin bags when being transported from point A to point B. Or I guess it wouldn't have to be 1000 bag but just a mark that is called that even if it is made from a few coins bumping into each other and making small but in some case VERY expensive marks on the coins.

GSA put the nice morgans mostly CC in the hard plastic, I do not know if there are any non Morgans in the hard plastic, I do know the ugly sub par coins went into the soft packs which were shipped out like the blue ikes.

I'm still in the market for a redfield holdered coin but it continues to elude me as I really do not want to pay up for one. I do have a couple paramount holdered coins...

Since gold shot shot up it seems the reasonably priced stuff has as well. So I've been keeping my spare change in my pocket, With the exception of winning a couple lowball bids the other day. And winning the bid on a 1923 peace dollar in a gsa soft pack, Also got a first gen PCI columbian the other week. You know the holder they had the photograph included with the holder. The coin when recieved was definatly a cleaned specimen, but for 7.57 bid with 3 in shipping I'm not gonna get hurt as I really bid for the holder not the coin in this case.

The gsa

Another case of I did'nt have a gsa soft pack. Seeing as to how peace dollars are more difficult than morgans I did good here.... STT

BUENAS TARDES AMIGOS AFICIONADOS del NUMISMATICOS!

COASTAL WEATHER: Almost an exzact repeat of yestiddy!
Temperature increased to 63F. Warm enough to be outside

A super nice early spring day.

TOKEN CHAT: (aka boleto chat or ficha chat or Marke chat)
Another neat token acquired at the recent Numismaticks
Expo in L.B. is this token from Isle of Man.
We know it is a token because it sayeth this on one
side; "HALF PENNY TOKEN". Then below that statement
is the date 1831. On the other side is the symbol
of Isle of Man the triskelion. This token is copper.
Grade is VF. This token measures 38mm diameter.
Another acquisition for the personal
misc. token accumulation. Just for FUN!

Morning Eddie!

Well, Right at the last minute, actually 20 seconds or so CNN broke into their programming and showed the launch of the shuttle. Got Hump Jr out of bed and he and I went outside and about 40 seconds after it had launched we saw this weird looking red thing move up towards the sky. Stayed red looking and then slowly faded away to complete dark I'm guessing as it went between the clouds. Really cool to see.

Ok...gotta try to get back to sleep...

Koffeekrisp: The animal on your Magdalen Island token is a seal, not a whale. Condition is the key to value. A G4 will book around 20.00. A VF around 225.00 and an EF around 550.00. But that's using the much tougher Canadian grading standards. Sorry, I wasn't around earlier. Hope you see this.

I recently listed a coin as "AU50 OR BETTER? YOU JUDGE". Listing got yanked within about 5 hours. So why does this seller get away with that when I merely ask the question is my coin listed this quality??? Kinda coinfusing....

smed: after you guys telling me what it was, I looked in the aforementioned book and found it's description. Then looked back at listing and realized such. He kind of gets around it by saying "mule year" and "scarce". He doesn't, however, say it is "the mule". Deception within the regs, huh?
Posted by   ( ) on Feb-07-10 at 15:33:04 PST   Listings
that seller is a shyster... he's intentionally misleading the bidders by intimating that the coin for sale is a mule...

it is NOT... it is a normal coin worth maybe 1/4-1/3 what it was bid up to...

GF== Mule means a coin has the wrong reverse for the obverse. The mint employees have produced a few of these on purpose in the last decade. They are being sold as errors but they are purposely made errors.

i was just looking for some info on the pcgs website and noticed they now have a new feature on the site.

they now have 'photograde online'

has most every series of coins with pictures of all grades. much easier than thumbing through a book looking for pictures/grades. and book pictures aren't always that great.

only thing missing would be a written explanation of grades in addition to the pics.

anyway....i thought it was pretty neat.

DC...I feel the same way about the rain down this way. I'm having a heck of a time keeping the septic tanks all going with the amount of rain that's been falling. Seems it won't ever end and septic tanks and lots of rain aren't a good mix. My park roads are all dirt as well but with my scraper blades I can keep them in decent shape. Actually my park roads are in better shape than the county roads as the county always scrapes the roads right before it rains and then all that loose soil just washed down into the ditches whereas my roads are sloped from the middle and have grass growing on each edge and the middle.

Was scanning a 1911-S ANACS 1 cent piece and hadn't never noticed but ANACS put on the holder that it was a 10 cent piece. Wonder if anyone out there collects slabbed coins with clerical errors??

Koin, we don't get big snows that often.
This is an odd winter since we've had two, 22" Dec 19 and this 28" one.
Plus two 6-8" sandwiched between. And the one coming could be in that range too.
But we only get biggies about once every 5-10 years.

I'll hold off until Tues before I try shopping again.
Then I'll have an idea how bad Tues night's storm will be.
Plus it may be Tues before I can get to the store.

Looks like the people up there would put heat strips in the concrete sidewalks so they could just flip a switch and melt all that snow off the sidewalk kinda like we do to our windshields when we get a heavy frost. Might not be too cost effective in the start, but over a period of years it would probably pay for itself in having to hire people to remove snow for a fee.

DaveRoo . LOL .. I was not sure any airlines were flying . hated to fly when they had to deice the wings:( .. actually, hated to fly .. learned that from Don Adams . who hated to fly .. I flew with him to various places, first time .. he was sitting next to me, naturarally, reading a book . we had NOT taken off yet .. I looked and said to Don . 'why are you holding the book upside down?' .. 'I am?' . That was DON . when he fell asleep . I went up to the bar area/first class where we were.. don't think they have the upstairs anymore.. I was having a GREAT time with everyone .. Don walked up and said 'why did you leave me?' .. :) . he was VERY frightened of flying . and he did NOT drink .. I always wanted a drink or two and cigarettes (stopped smoking '83 or /84 . happy to say:)

Interesting about 'new stuff' Buster spoke bout best idea last week ..

Good Morning Folks!!

Looks like there's still a lot of animalvelocity on the board. Oh well, maybe one day, or maybe not.

Hope everyone is going to have a super Sunday. My goal for today is to finally, yes finally get a few coins scanned and maybe listed since the football season will finally be over with and I like my auctions to end on Sunday nights.

And, I don't know anything about football, but I'm gonna go with the Saints just because their town got so beat up a few years back and maybe it would help them feel better if they win.

And, a Classic song by a Classic country singer RIP Johnny!

Morning, all.

In an hour or so I go out and start shoveling.
Actually I cheated a bit and had a couple young bucks do about 75% of the work.
But the remaining 25% is going to be a chore.

Part of a flight attendant's arrival announcement:
'We'd like to thank you folks for flying with us today.
And, the next time you get the insane urge to go blasting through the skies in a pressurized metal tube, we hope you'll think of US Airways..'
