00:00:43 PST Web, that's interesting to ask that here, bet no one can say they have or would. someone asked for help here recently and they were poo-pooed & their post was removed..what does that tell you?

a couple of e-mails and phone calls to an agency got them the attention they needed to help with a situation. Just a few minutes time involved but it made a difference.

I attended a lecture on suicide (mandated educational training for work, since I work with disabled individuals)... and there was this story worth mentioning.

A man contemplating suicide paced back and forth on the Golden Gate Bridge for 4 hours. He thought to himself, "If just one person asks me if I'm ok, I won't jump off." In the 4 hour period just one person stopped, and they asked him to take their picture. He did, handed the camera back and got up on the edge and jumped off. He survived, one of few to survive the dive, to tell his tale.

How many people have you asked if they are OK? today? just wondering....

CNN) -- Rep. John Murtha of Pennsylvania, a longtime fixture on the House subcommittee that oversees Pentagon spending, died after complications from gallbladder surgery, according to his office. He was 77.

The Democratic congressman recently underwent scheduled laparoscopic surgery at National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, to remove his gallbladder. The procedure was "routine minimally invasive surgery," but doctors "hit his intestines," a source close to the late congressman told CNN.

daffy_demure - You just missed it, thats all.

The Palin attack camout after I posted the following (I like clever writing).

This comes from Burt Prelutsky who is a columnist for the LA Times.

"Frankly, I don't know what it is about California , but we seem to have a strange urge to elect really obnoxious women to high office. I'm not bragging, you understand, but no other state, including Maine, even comes close. When it comes to sending left-wing dingbats to Washington, we're number one. There's no getting around the fact that the last time anyone saw the likes of Barbara Boxer, Dianne Feinstein, and Nancy Pelosi, they were stirring a cauldron when the curtain went up on 'Macbeth'. The three of them are like jackasses who happen to possess the gift of blab. You don't know if you should condemn them for their stupidity or simply marvel at their ability to form words."

Again, why keep the many reductions put on carbon generation by both political parties over the past 25-30 years which have resulted in reductions in pollution generation. They cost money and are enforced by government. Why not just repeal them? Put the lead back in gasoline, why incur the added expense and regulation?

About 50-70 volcanoes are active (erupting) each year. At any given time, there is an average of about 20 volcanoes that are erupting.

So unless you have some really big corks, Man Made CO2 is a really small problem.

We need alternative fuels because what we have now cannot be sustained, not because of a bogus CO2 scare.

Living in a forest, I have extra ozygen if anyone needs it... But the mold from the leaves is really bad for allergies...
Posted by   ( ) on Feb-08-10 at 15:45:39 PST   Listings
Asthma may be caused by many things, including one's NOT being exposed to irritants. Unfortunately, once a diagnosis is issued, the victim typically accepts fate.

To trust corrupt pols with hammering out what they now propose, is to invite a world order. Surely you can sense the greed for lust and power these nimrods have written on their faces? Why not worry about radiation poisoning from your wonderful cellphone network? Answer: because if everyone threw away their phones, then there'd be a law forcing you to carry one. Those towers are never coming down.

Imagine the heartbreak of buying property, locking in to a mortagage (we can't all be neibs), and then having a cellphone tower erected which runs through your bedroom.

Fat chance getting an injunction! lol

The game is not just 'misdirection'. It is what do we WANT to get you to look at.

Target practice=doctors with their labeling machines.

Just sit back and listen to the rage should anyone suggest that diabetes is 'cureable'.

That plants that caused the allergies.

On top of that the married each other producing children that were more sensitive to those plants, so many of the worse allergy sufferers are in Arizona.

If you reduce carbon generation which is a pollutant, causing such things as asthma especially in children and replace that energy production with cleen renewable energy ( or even natural gas) you will improve air quality not to mention buy less oil from those who are in some cases funding the very terrorists who are trying to kill us.

unemployed (not the percentage) is given as 129.5 million.
If the Population of the US is 300 million then that number would be 43%

There are 20% under the age to work and 20% above the age to work, and then stay at home moms another 10%

I doubt there are anywhere near 43% of the population unemployed as that would be about the entire working population, I can only assume your number is wrong.

Something interesting the number of unemployed (not the percentage) is given as 129.5 million.

In 1933 the population of the entire country was 125,578,763.

So, there are no more people unemployed than the entire population in 1933, the height of the Depression.

Seems like 9.7% now is a lot worse that 25% then.

Recession chugs on, except in government
Examiner Editorial
February 8, 2010

White House apologists were quick to point to the unemployment rate decline from 10 percent to 9.7 percent as evidence that the recovery is gathering momentum and that President Obama's policies -- especially his $787 billion economic stimulus bill Congress approved last February -- are "working." But the back story behind the figures provides cold comfort.

First, the drop to 9.7 percent unemployment does not reflect the creation of new jobs that normally accompanies an economic recovery. The number of new jobs is actually declining. Total nonfarm payroll employment, for example, dipped by an additional 20,000 positions after a December decline of 150,000 positions. The unemployment rate the day Obama took office last year stood at 7.6 percent and 134.6 million people had jobs. When he signed the economic stimulus, Obama promised the bill would bolster the economy sufficiently to keep unemployment below 8.0 percent. But the unemployment rate has exceeded 8.0 percent since last fall, and total employment stands at only 129.5 million. The stimulus has been a bust.

Second, anybody who thinks the job situation is going to improve dramatically in coming months is not paying attention to what's going on behind the unemployment rate. The Hudson Institute's Diana Furchtgott-Roth notes that “This is a better employment report than last month’s report, yet the economy is still not creating jobs. The percent of the unemployed who are out of work for 27 weeks or more exceeded 41%, an all-time high. This is unacceptable and shows that Congress and the President need to focus on job creation, rather than on expanding government, because the tax increases and borrowing used to expand government reduce overall job creation and create uncertainty." Furchtgott-Roth further notes that "the labor force participation rate is the lowest since mid-1985." This means that fewer Americans are in the labor force.

Third, among the few sectors of the economy showing net employment growth over the past year is the federal government. The federal civil service is rapidly expanding as Obama increases the size of government, with 33,000 new positions being added in January alone. Only 9,000 of those new slots were for temporary census jobs. In other words, what we are seeing is good times for the public sector and the growing prospect of a continuing and perhaps even deepening recession for everybody else.

there is a huge difference in having laiding terms where payment is expected within x-many days of delivery (though I pay cash cod-and all my vendors love to hear from me, never had a problem getting product delivered)and borrowing to open the doors.

just as there is a big difference in taking out a mortgage because its a good business move. or borrowing for a capital expenditure because our tax code makes it a wise move even if you can afford to pay cash and borrowing because its the only way you can even begin to think about paying for it.

stock floats people, thats what stock floats are for, a good idea that a single individual cant finance out of pocket. Need to expand your 'factory' you float stock to gather in investors that believe in your product and its profitability and its ability to pay dividends.

thedrum> and my point has always been that they shouldnt be. That because they had to live beyond their means and take out a debt load they could not realistically service over a 10 year period is a position that people that make their money by charging interest want people to make.

I call it the 'Big Shot' complex
They have to hire people so they can be the 'boss' instead of work their own businesses. They have to live in houses they cant afford, buy things they cant afford, take risky ventures to show how they can play with the big boys. Instead of making do, they have to have things new and shiny and expensive.

bah, if times are slow you, not employees, put in 16 hours a day if needed; you dont buy a new car, you dont spend spend spend, taking money out of the 'til to cover credit cards you shouldn't have used, etc...

When I first went on eBatty, I listed like crazy, 500 auctions at a time.

As the changes took more and more in fees of the fewer and fewer sales, I had to change.

I had to research what I listed so that I would not waste time and money on something that was already listed and not selling.

I hade to make a better looking listing than the next seller.

I had to accommodate the wishes of buyers who asked for special shipping.

I had to sell smarter.

What lowers prices?

As I remember it's called supply and demand.

For instance, having a million drop shippers on eBay selling the same thing, might bring down the price.

Credit is not the ONLY cost of something.

The IDEA is to sell SMART.

If after you figure your costs, you can't make a PROFIT and stay in business, you should go into another business and not, dare I say it, BLAME others.

Banks have customers and stockholders to please.

If giving loans to people that can't pay them back got us into this mess, how does forcing them to do it again help?

If you don't like the fees, go someswhere else like a Credit Union.

If you don't like the interest, don't use the credit card.

STOP expecting to be rewarded for bad behavior.

most small businesses that I see fail do so because of their debt load, not because they had a bad idea or no trade.

and a lot of that debt load came from people telling them all the fancy smancy do-dads they needed to open the doors. I buy up an awful lot of inventory and fixtures for pennies on the dollar because they bought into the hype instead of sticking the money into 'stock-in-trade' and had a debt load service that buried them.

I understand the need for start up capital - that's what stock is for.

I understand that need to take out mortgages to purchase land and build buildings.

I can even understand having a revolving line of credit at a bank to make things flow more smoothly for bills of laiding - but if you don't have stable income and assets to secure it why would a Bank extend it to you?

There is a business practice where older higher paid employees are replaced by newer lower paid ones.

The government is doing much the same thing with the highly skilled people in the space program.

Cancelling programs and fireing them so that there is more money to give to those with no skills other than getting other peoples money through the government.
