Good Morning Cafe.

I'm still looking at patches of grass in my yard. Not for long though. They say, and I reiterate, these prognosticators don't even know what month it is sometimes. Anyway...they're saying tomorrow is the day for us to get some of the white carp. One estimate 3-5 inches of light fluffy snow....we'll see. Not supposed to start 'til tomorrow morning....my day off.....
Will top off the snowblower tonight so all I have to do is plug it in and start it.....

Harli....yeah, we have a fridge and a nuker in our "conference" room along with a t.v. It's only purpose is "lunch room". Haven't had a meeting since I can't remember. Don't even have their daily "managers meetings" anymore.....very complacent I'm afraid. Can't figure it out.

Thanks, Penny, on the Snooks report. Keep us in the "loop" please......

My tax guy came over last night. Getting a few sheckles back. Hope I get it before the Gov. runs out of $$$$$$ !!!

Janna....Prayers continue and intensify......

Have a good one everyone....Sharon, Barb and all others in the snow track....be careful and STAY SAFE!!!!!

Angel hugs to all who need them. SNOOKS - JANNA - both of you are in my prayers.

Morning all!

DS says the snow blower is ready and waiting for the white carp to start tonight. After school, I'll make a run to the grocery store to pick up a gallon of milk and a few extra things. We might be snowed in for a few days with this blast of winter snow... 12-16+ inches predicted. WALT and SHARON..not sure how much you're getting. Stay safe.

SNOOKS I hope you're feeling better..

about calling your DR's office and giving them H$## for not calling you back promptly.

DO you think this will make them want to be of more help to you.? careful what you say or do to DR's and nurses these days...YOU may need them again next month.

I have found that letting them know..(IN a very nice way) what happened and asking how it can be fixed can work better for me.

I call it my Columbo approach :)

There is one good thing about us pack rats...

the girl nextdoor came over to barrow a DOLLY to move a refrigerator... then she brings it back and says it's too small do I have a bigger one...

she brings that back and asks if I have one with solid rubber wheels so I give her one like that. and told her I have a 4 wheel floor dolly if that doesn't work...

who else but and old geezer packrat has that kind of selection ? :)

SHE is over to barrow something evey week...and gets visibly upset if I don't have just the item she needs :)

they have 3 kids.

HER husband walked off an $82,000 a year job about six months ago cause he didn't like his new boss...NOW he is desperate for work. JOBS are hard to get right now , especially with local governments.

I think he should have pondered that a bit more before he left.

Oh Carp! Just listened to the weather and they're calling for 12-16+ inches of snow in my area for Tues. night and all day Wednesday. Can't squeak by on this one, I'm afraid! WALT and DONNA..you're in on this one too!

Glad SNOOKS checked in, but like DONNA said, it's best to check out the heart thing anyway. If both symptoms are the same, then how would you distinguish between them? Something to think about!

DONNA..you just reminded me that I must plan on working on taxes some time soon. I have an appointment with the accountant the beginning of March.

Good Afternoon :) Lovely blue skies today, they just perk me up. Im even going to do some listing today (gasp). It isn't easy when your eyes are half clouded over,
Im truly looking forward to the surgery.
Im very happy for the Saints and the people of New Orleans, they needed this pick up. Way to go!

Penny ~ Thanks for the update on Snooks, we'll rest easier knowing she went to the ER.

Janna ~ I'm so terribly sorry to hear about your low white count and all that goes with that. I hadn't realized your cancer wasn't cure-able just control-able.
That's a heavy burden to bear and please know that your cafe friends are praying for you and looking for a miracle for you.

Karen ~ Are you suppose to get anymore snow with the next storm? Do you drive
in the snow?

Snooks ~ I'm so sorry you are having so much trouble with arthritis, it's a scourge for sure!
Perhaps your Dr. can refer you to a pain clinic, they do wonders.
Feel free to grex whenever you want, that's what friends are for and just because someone
elses problems are larger than yours, doesnt mean it doesn't affect your life in a big way.
We understand. At any one time in here someone is going through a crisis and we can pray
for them, and build them up.. maybe even make them laugh, and we know what they say about laughter.

LR ~ I'm of the belief that soup is good in any weather. Some folks like cold soups, but I'm not one of them. It's just so sad for those folks where the explosion was. Even if they find out whether it was
human error or otherwise, it won't bring those people back. My heart goes out to them.

Walt ~ That sounds like a good dinner, perhaps you can take some to work? Do you have a lunch room and microwave at work?

Sharon ~ Wow, 7-10 more inches, you will have to clean up all over again. Do you ever wear a
back brace? You finally got your back comfortable and I don't want you to go through that again.

EE ~ DH works in a dangerous job and was hurt on the job in a car accident. No one saw that coming.
Sorry about your ear infection, watch out with that dizziness. Im sure you're very frustrated with all that's gone on and the light at the end of the tunnel getting further away. Isn't it amazing how your life can be changed in an instant. I hope Deans gets his surgery soon so he can start healing again.

Nero ~ A dusting is just right. You get the beauty of the snow without all the
hassles. I figure we're due for snow soon because my tulips are starting to peek up. LOL

Penny, thanks for the update on your Mom. Hope it is nothing major. Does she take BP meds? Keep us posted.

Snooks, glad you are OK. I just worry because I have been reading alot lately how many DRs ignore the signs of a woman having a heart attack because they can be so different from a man's. For years all the heart attack tests, in fact for decades most medicals tests except those specifically women orientated (ob-gyn stuff) were performed on men only, it's like they are just noticing we are different and react diffferently.

I did have an ear infection. I went to Stop & Shop and got my antibiotic for free. Love that! DR. also wrote me up for all those test that you have to take once you reach a certain age...ugh... what a list. Blood tests, bone density, skin screening and "the test". I will have to arrange a ride for that one as Dean can't drive, maybe when Dan is on spring break.

Well, must make some phone calls. Still missing some 1098/1099s for taxes. Probably went to the old address though I thought I had changed our address with everybody. Take care all.

Donna..hope you get your problems with both your health AND insurance fixed soon. You have hit way too many speed bumps over the last months, it's time for a total turnaround for you and your family!!!

Compared to what you and your DH and family members have had to go through, I feel like a whiny cry baby. Maybe I need some wine with my whine? LOL Or is that I need some cheese with my Whine? Oh never mind, I am finally able to eat, and I'm hungry. Off to make some french toast with my left arm. ROTFLMFAOWTIMEPIMP!!! Poof..........

Oh yes..one more thing. If you hear great obscenities coming in through your CLOSED your windows, it's just me talking to the Dr's office that didn't return my call.
Posted by   ( ) on Feb-08-10 at 09:21:44 PST   Listings
thanks Donna. I understand exactly what you are saying, and yes, over the last three years, I have had many tests, and checkups etc that led me to believe it wasn't probably heart. However, that said, that doesn't always mean it COULD'T be heart. I certainly didn't rule it out completely. Evidently the Dr. I called yesterday, didn't seem to think it warrented even a call back. That is the second time this has happened with this Dr. Which upsets me a lot. I have never experienced Mayo Clinic Dr.'s to ignore my need for a call back. I am gearing up as I type to call them and tell them that I feel it was not acceptable and ask THEM what I should have done to expedite a call back.

Fan...thanks for your comment. And I add, I need all the prayers I can get!!! Actually for ALL aspects of my life at my ripe old age. LOL

Now so that I don't lose THIS post too. I will send it and scroll more.

Well poo...Had a long post, and it disappeared. Ok I'll just make this one short.

Thanks nero...you hit the nail on the head. YES that is exactly how it was with me. You described the pain AND the time element. I am still holding my arm across my waist, cause now if I do that and don't move my arm, I am almost pain free! Thank heavens for small favors!!! I still have not had a call from the Dr. I am fixin my self to call them and tell them that, in Harli's words....this is NOT ACCEPTABLE!

I think I can actually be functional today, using my left arm. YEAH...I have an arm sling, and as soon as I can figure out how it goes on, I'll put it on.

Now I will scroll further than nero's post to answer others.

Good Morning, AOL Cafers!

We have just a dusting of snow here in SWMO. And I hope that's all we get!

Snooks36, glad to see you have checked in here. Believe me, I certainly understand the pain you are having with your RA, as I have had that in the past. And when the shoulder pain is at it's worst it is really painful to even take a breath. It always felt like someone had plunged a long, sharp knife in my shoulders and was twisting the blade deeper and deeper. The pain I would get in my shoulders would last from 24-36 hours before it would even let up. Prayers going out to you.

LR, glad to see you made some Chicken Noodle Soup, too. The soup I made last week is long gone. Sure was good.

I may make chicken soup too. I have a container of home made turkey broth in the freezer and some frozen chicken breast. Also have potatoes, cattots, onions celery, egg noodles so that would work out good. Thanks for the idea.

Good Morning All!

Snooks, glad to see you are OK. I am glad you think your problems are just your usual arthritis problems but I do hope you and your DR have ruled out heart problems recently. You wouldn't want your arm/shoulder problems masking serious problems.

I am going to drag myself off to the DR. I had a series of colds and then started feeelin nauseaus, dizzy, slight headach but have just been living it. Yesterday started with an earache so I assume that is the cause of my problems. Going to have him submit other tests, etc for me also because not sure how long we will be able to hold on to insurance after our Cobra discount ends in May. State will pay insurance for Dean but not me or kids (they can get inexpensive insurance through school). Everytime I see the light at the end of the tunnel it seems to end up being the train coming.

It is tragic about the power plant explosion in CT. Dean has never worked there because it was just starting to hit the phase where people of Dean'a expertise would start being hired. He was hoping to apply there though after his operation. His work is more involved with the actual testing, start-up and running of the plant when it is completed. My cousin's SO did work there for a year and 1/2 years as a steel worker but had finished his job awhile ago. Dean's job at power plants can be dangerous and although the whole story is not known it is obvious that something did not go right with the gas purge whether employee error or mechanical area it is not known, and the cold weather could have had a role in it also. My heart goes out to the victims and their families. We have only heard one name of a person who died and Dean did not know him.

Well, I must get moving, in case the DR says "come on down".

All those with snow, take care. More coming weds and it looks like this one will hit us.

Good Morning All.

Cold but clear here. Some snow on the way for Wednesday...hope not...

Barb....the flea market was INDOORS so it was o.k. AND did also get to Barnes and Noble for 6 books on the clearance table....all by my authors that I missed in 2008. And Bed and Bath, with DW's gift cert.

Then Spareribs (baby back) and cabbage and potatoes all in the same pot. It's a shame I don't have a recipe for the broth that was generated.....

The Saint's won the Super Bowl so that was good......

In at 11 today, but have to stay 'til 7. Could be a long day.....See ya all...............

SNOOKS...glad you're feeling better. Don't give us a scare like that!

JULIA...Yup! It was WALT who started the chicken soup thing..LOL I love soup and can eat it any season. The only criteria is that it's piping hot.

KAREN...when the Cafe posse has a hard time finding you, that's a concern! Happy to see you posting again..:)

DONNA..I saw on the news that a power plant in Conn. exploded. Did Dean ever work there?

Time for coffee and a corn muffin. Looks like we're in for another snowstorm on Wednesday. Yikes!

Hopefully the doctors can do something for you so you can manage it without feeling sleepy. I hope you get a better night tonight. You may well be asleep already!

Hooray for New Orleans!!!

My thoughts and prayers go to all involved with the gas explosion (in Conneticut I think.)(and I think that's spelt wrong but you know where I mean.)

We saw pictures of all the snow in Washington DC. WOW. Be careful every one.

Sharon - how's that river? And how is the bus display going?

Can't stay and play tonight. I have a lot to do.

Stay safe.

O.K..sorry I haven't gotten back in here, but it's been a long hard day. I am quite a bit better. I called the Dr. I am still taking oxycodone with permission, but only when the pain is horrible. I haven't taken one since about noon, but I am about to hit the bed and will take one so i can sleep. I found out that if I walk even back and forth in my little house, the pain lets up. I have no idea why, but it gave me some relief. However by noon, I was dead tired because of no sleep last night and crashed for about 3 hours. Now I'm very tired, and think with a pain pill I should be able to get some sleep. No it's not my heart...it's just that damn painful arthritis. Something I guess I will have to put up with until the Dr, can give me something that works better than what I'm taking. Yep it's hell getting old. But it beats the alternative!!!!! Thanks for all the concern, and sorry I didn't post sooner. Off to bed after I pop another pain pill..(I hate them! they make me feel ICKY!) but they are helping the pain, finally. Poof...

We got between 18 and 20" of snow. My sis had a gal with 4wd pick her up and take her to work Sat in the wee hours of the morning. The gal got sick and went home a couple hours later. The hospital was offering beds in the former nursing students residence hall adjacent to the main building for anyone who didn't want to chance driving home, so Sis (who had packed a bag just in case) took advantage and stayed there Saturday night and got a ride home when she was finished Sunday. Now she's all dug out and she is more confident that she'll be able to find parking Monday afternoon than she would coming home the afternoon of the Super Bowl (she has to park on the city street, which is a challenge on a normal day much less a day like Super Bowl when people come into the neighborhood for parties.)

Harli! You are so naughty *wink* to think I've been sucked into facebook LOL. Well, I guess I kinda sorta have come to think of it. Snooks hasn't been posting to facebook either today, I hope she is OK. Those symptoms don't sound very good.

Today I found an OOP book that I've been searching for since 2005. It is about a local couple of murders that happened in 1969 around here by a motorcycle gang. It got a lot of attention at the time, it happened in an abandoned amusement park. One of the accused was the son of a well known local businessman - he ended up cutting a deal and testifying against 2 of the other 3 involved and he ended up walking. He went on to be a prominent businessman himself and in 1995 was convicted and did jail time for shooting at and killing a boy the day before the kid's 18th birthday.

Anyway, the book was published in a small run, but I just didn't have the spare cash to splurge on it at the time. No one locally seems to let go of their copies. When I do see a copy for sale online, they usually go for $100+ for a used softcover copy - out of my price range.

Last night I was notified that there was a copy that just became available. An out of state seller listed a copy and must not have known what they had - I was able to buy it with what sounds like normal and reasonable wear (there was an explicit secription of the condition) for just $26.75! Brand new, the 463 page book originally cost $35.00. Yay!

Good Afternoon :) Got all my chores done including dinner, so can relax and watch the game although DH works and will only see an hour. Im sure someone at work will have a TV in the lunch room, so he can check on it.

I hope Snooks posts soon, those are classic signs of a heart attack, although each is different.

Secondhand ~ It hasn't happened to me, but I'm sorry it has happened to you. Have you contacted eBay?

Ciao ~ Tacos are perfect. I made a pork loin with plum sauce, scalloped potatoes, Beboppins corn pudding recipe (delicious), and almond green beans. Along with various chips/dips.

Penny ~ Sounds like a fun day for you, don't get over tired though. I would love to share the day with someone but I woke up with a fever and sore lungs, so it's just as well. LOL

Walt ~ I don't do pictures, it's just depressing. I don't recognize that old hag in my bathroom mirror. I choose to live with the illusion that I'm still 25 and not scary to look at. LOL
Wind chill sounds toooo cold for this Scandinavian girl.

Sharon ~ I'm glad you got your snow under control, but I so worry about it making your back hurt again. Wish I could send my sons over to help.

Beni ~ When you sell guns at a flea market, what do you do about the form to get approved to have a gun.

EE ~ I never cared much for Soap Operas but when my sons were young, their naptime started just when "The Guiding Light" started, so got interested in that one time. Then I didn't see if for several years, and it happened to be on one afternoon, and do you believe I didn't miss a things in those four years. Someone is always sleeping with someones best friend/husband/lover etc. Then a baby is born, and all the drama with proving who's the Daddy. Of course someone is always dying of a horrible disease but it's saved just in time when they find out the test came back wrong. Its just too predictable for me. LOL

Snooks ~ Never take Oxycontin or any other class A pain med without taking either phenergen or promethazine first. The nausea just makes you feel worse.

We need to hear from those MIA like Virginia, Jeannie, Tommy, Wise, etc. I hear Karen got sucked into Facebook.
Poor thing, and she was such a sweet girl. Sheesh!

There have been a number of auctions that I have watched that have been ended by newbies that have turned out to be bogus. They sign up and bid the same day and then don't complete the auction. I have set preferences on my auctions to deter the deadbeat. Although I have gotten my share of them, they sign up and make offers or bid the same day. Can somebody tell me if they have experienced this too.

Morning all!

Worried about SNOOKS too! WALT...you lucked out BIG TIME with this snowstorm. Save the flea market for a warmer day and opt for Barnes and Nobles..:)

SHARON...we didn't get as much as you did, so it was easier cleaning and snowblowing. Be careful and don't overdo.

DONNA..good luck with Dean's visit on Tuesday. I'm not a football fan, but I am in two Super Bowl pools. DD likes football, so I'll give her the job of checking my numbers. Wish me luck!

BARBK...Harli his right. After so many months of not walking, you probably need a little therapy. It makes sense to use the walker at first for you body to get used to weight bearing and proper balance again.

JANNA...thinking of you also and sending hugs and positive thoughts.

Enjoy the day everyone. Easy cooking Sunday for me..TACO anyone?

SNOOKS not sure if you are interested in this...but they have about 4 locations in MESA where they distribute fruit and vegitables...NO free but for a really good bargain. ONE is going each sat less than a block from me at the park...they are only open for pick up for 30 minutes and you bring your own laundry basked boxes or bags for the food.

IT must be a good deal as people are lined up by 7 am and cars parked all up and down my street I finally went over and asked what was going on yesterday morning.

http://www.bountifulbaskets.org/

it's NOT a charity but a food co-op.

also only available in 4 states right now.

Good morning everyone. Sorry I didn't check back in--we didn't lose power but I spent the majority of the day cleaning snow as you can imagine. We had 20 inches and we have 2 4' drifts--1 I have tackled--the other, not yet. I am only 2/3 way down the driveway--so have that to do yet today. I did call someone yesterday--but he hasn't shown up YET!

I am so thankful I had the electric start put on the snowblower in December. The snow is taller than the snowblower so it is quite a challenge to get through the snow--you have to go over it several times to get it all. I worked outside 2 hours yesterday, then came in and napped for 1-1/2 hours--then went out and did 2 more hours. I was exhausted.

Angel hugs to all who need them.

SNOOKS - I hope you are okay.

Sharon

a few Lines actually recorded in court rooms. :)

ATTORNEY: Doctor, how many of your autopsies have you performed on dead people?
WITNESS: All of them. The live ones put up too much of a fight.

ATTORNEY: She had three children, right?
WITNESS: Yes.
ATTORNEY: How many were boys?
WITNESS: None.
ATTORNEY: Were there any girls?
WITNESS : Your Honor, I think I need a different attorney. Can I get a new attorney?

ATTORNEY: Now doctor, isn't it true that when a person dies in his sleep, he doesn't know about it until the next morning?
WITNESS: Did you actually pass the bar exam?

ATTORNEY: So the date of conception (of the baby) was August 8th?
WITNESS: Yes.
ATTORNEY: And what were you doing at that time?
WITNESS: What do you think?

ATTORNEY: Do you recall the time that you examined the body?
WITNESS: The autopsy started around 8:30 pm.
ATTORNEY: And Mr. Denton was dead at the time?
WITNESS: If not, he was by the time I finished.

ATTORNEY: Doctor, before you performed the autopsy, did you check for a pulse?
WITNESS: No.
ATTORNEY: Did you check for blood pressure?
WITNESS: No.
ATTORNEY: Did you check for breathing?
WITNESS: No.
ATTORNEY: So, then it is possible that the patient was alive when you began the autopsy?
WITNESS: No.
ATTORNEY: How can you be so sure, Doctor?
WITNESS: Because his brain was sitting on my desk in a jar.
ATTORNEY: I see, but could the patient have still been alive, nevertheless?
WITNESS: Yes, it is possible that he could have been alive and practicing law.

GOOD MORING KAFE..

It is raining here in Phoenix...but as usual not enough to really get wet..and only a few minutes at a time.

SNOOKS I agree never put off that kind of pain...I know you've had it before and it was NOT a heart attack but don't take a chance.

YEP super bowl sunday....wonder if fan has to work today....I would think it might not be a good day to try to sell cars.

altho I might try the swap meet if the rain is lite.

super bowl is late and I would be done out there by 12 or 1 pm. AMMO and gun accesssories are in big demand and bring really high prices I have lots of both.

wishing everyone a terrific SUNDAY...what ever you are up to.

Snooks, I sure hope you called 911. Now I am worried too. Those are possible heart attack signs, especially in women.

Hope those in snow area are OK. I heard from Sharon early yesterday morn via Lexulous game and she had lots of drifting snow and then she didn't take a turn the rest of the day. Highly unusual, especially I would think if she were snowed in and had power. Hope her & DH are OK.

I took Dean to CT friday and left him at his Mother's/Brother's for the weekend. I am going to pick him up at Walmart this morn when his Mother goes to do her grocery shopping at 11. It is about 20 minutes closer to me and I can get there a little earlier and do a little shopping myself.

Frances Reid died over the weekend. You soap fans may remember her as Alice Horton, the matriarc of the Horton family on Days of Our Lives but she was also a normal actress in her earlier life I think. My Mother who died in 1974 was a big Days of Our Lives" Fan and I became addicted to it for many years in the 1970s and 1980s. Funny I can catch it today when channel surfing and not much has changed... she will be missed.

Janna, hugs, thinking of you and sending positive thoughts.

I take Dean for an aspiration on tuesday and then they will decide on his next operation.

Oh, today is Super Bowl Sunday. Looking forward to half-time and The Who. I saw them live several times in my younger years, twice at Madison Garden in their 10 day run there in 1976(?) and they were amazing. Hope the old Geezers don't embarass themselves like I felt the Rolling Stones did years ago. Maybe they will have rocking chairs on stage....lol.

Time to eat, change the litter box and shower before I leave.

Stay safe all,,,,hope snooks is alright. I will try to check back in before I leave.

been awake all night so far. Horrible pain in shoulder, radiating down the arm, and even into the chest (right side). hurts in my back under the shoulder blade too. I think I did something when moving banquet tables, and some heavy totes.
took oxycodone and didn't touch pain. tired heating pad, tried cold pack...nothing helps. I'm waiting for 6 oclock to arrive so I can call my friend Nic to take me to Urgent care. oxycodone making my stomach very nauseous. If it isn't one thing it's another.

Hi, everyone.

Barb and Walt, I love Clementines, too. Around here we can get the Spanish Clementines or the California Clementines called Cuties.

Sandra, no one approached the pantless guy and asked him to cover up or leave???

LR, you can add me to the list of people who enjoy reading your posts. Glad you've joined us!

Jackie, glad you and DH are feeling better.

Janna, you are always in my thoughts and Prayers. I hope your white count improves quickly so you can get back on track with your chemo.

I hope all of you in the snowy regions are doing well. Last I heard, my nephew in Westminster MD. had 24 inches and it was still snowing.

Loved all the kitty pics.

I've been given the okay to walk in the house a little bit each day until my next appointment with the doctor. Unfortunately my left hip has tightened up so badly that it's very painful and sometimes impossible to walk. When I was at the shoe place the other day and tried to walk I nearly fell down because the hip gave out. I have crutches and a walker in the house, so I'll try using them to see if I can loosen things up a bit. My hip is hurting so much when I try to sleep that I've taken some pills that are stronger than the Advil or Aleve I usually take, and they've kept me sleepy the last couple of days.

DH isn't overly interested in Football, but I'm sure he'll watch the game. It's supposed to be cold here, so we'll make chili and corn bread.

My best friend has a bucket list in her head, and one of the things on her list was to see a night shuttle launch, so she's there now, waiting for the final night launch. She's so excited she doesn't even mind sitting outside in the cold all night. While she's out there freezing her tush off, I think I'll get into my nice warm bed and read for awhile. Good night everyone.

TIPS YOUR FLORIST WON'T TELL YOU

  • Out of preservative? Try this: one fourth 7Up, three fourths water, and two or three drops of bleach.

  • How fresh is your rose? Look closely at the bottom of the blossom and see how many outside petals have been removed. The more ripped petals you see, the older it is

  • That cheap glass vase that came with your bouquet? Most of us will gladly recycle it if you return it.

  • Fruit is the enemy. It emits ethylene gas, so even in a separate bowl a few inches away, it's a surefire flower killer.

  • Yes, your flowers look beautiful in the window, but the heat from direct sunlight will kill them in a day or two.

  • Ask for a discount. We give one to senior citizens, professional groups, and customers we like

  • You can buy the cheaper Valentine's Day roses at the gas station. But they may droop or lose petals the next day. They were probably cut weeks ago and put in cold storage.

  • It's not your nose. Many flowers today don't have much scent, because growers are breeding for long stems and a lengthy vase life instead

  • We didn't choose February. If it were up to us, Valentine's Day would be in the summer, when roses are actually in season.

  • Sure, you can order flowers at 3 a.m. from 1-800-Flowers, FTD, or Teleflora. But they'll charge you $15 and then just call us.

  • Most flower shops restock on Monday mornings, so that's the time to place an order. Fridays and Saturdays are good days to ask what's on special.

  • The trick to making flowers last: Cut the stems at an angle and change the water at least every other day. And use the floral preservative we give you, not copper pennies.

  • Don't forget to wash the vase with soap when you change the water. Otherwise, the bacteria clinging to the sides will contaminate your new water.

  • If you want more flowers for your money, find a florist in your recipient's town and call him directly. But it's harder than you think: some florists in the yellow pages and at the top of your Google search are national businesses masquerading as local ones. They even buy local phone numbers. So make sure you look for a physical address in town.

  • Put away those scissors, which can crush the stem. Instead, use a sharp, non-serrated knife to cut a quarter of an inch off the bottom of stems, at an angle. While you're at it, cut off those leaves below the water line. They breed bacteria.

  • Looking for a way to jazz up your red roses? Try pairing them with purple statice or heather. Or ask us: "What can you put in that will really make her roses stand out?"

  • What's trendy? Tropical flowers in a geometric vase without a lot of greenery, mounded arrangements of just one type of flower, and woody branches with fruit or berries.

  • Do you like cold baths? Neither do flowers.

The Pillsbury Doughboy died yesterday of a yeast infection and trauma complications from repeated pokes in the belly. He was 71.
The Doughboy was buried in a lightly greased coffin especially prepared by Pam, a recent acquaintence.
Dozens of celebrities turned out to pay their respects, including Mrs.Butterworth, Hungry Jack, the California Raisins, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, Mr. Clean, Count Chokula, Mr. Peanut, Mr. Goodwrench, and Captain Crunch , as the Goodyear blimp circled overhead.
The grave site was piled high with assorted flours .
Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy and lovingly described the Doughboy as a man who never knew how much he was kneaded.
Ellen Degeres talked about the time she kneaded the Doughboy and he remained soft and malleable...a true help in a trying situation.
Martha Stewart remarked how he always left her kitchen with a sweet smelling aroma after a day of baking.
Michelle Obama noted the Doughboy was the "whitest" individual she had ever known , and one who always rose to the task.
The Doughboy had risen very quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with turnovers. He was not considered a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes. Despite being a little flaky at times he was still a crusty old fellow and was considered a roll model for millions.
The Doughboy is survived by his wife, Play Dough, two children, John Dough and Jane Dough, plus they had one in the oven. He is also survived by his elderly grand dad - Pop Tart, a brother - Sour Dough, and a sister-in-law - DoReMi .
The funeral was held at 3:50 for about 20 minutes.

Do any of you watch the History Channel show called "The crumbling of America?"
Boy that show is a real eye opener. So many highways and bridges and water pipes are literally crumbling, esp. older cities on the east coast. For example, the city of Buffalo, NY loses 40% of their fresh water through leaks. There just isn't any monies to repair them. St. Lewis has a great sewer system but after 80 yrs. it can't hold the volume, so 15% is going into the waterways. With all the "fluff" programs wasting money, I bet they could be fixed ~ and put folks to work. Once again, I have to wonder... is anyone in charge?

LR ~ If you dont get my email in your email, you can get your messages sent through eBay by clicking on my ebay at the top of this page, then click on the second tab which says "my messages" There should be a copy there.
Sounds like your cats have done a great job of controlling you as most of our pets do. LOL Sadie is afraid of "nothing" and gets herself in trouble.
Working in emergency rooms is also hazardous to your health and we were given every booster you could get each year. I had to leave my job at 6 mos. pregnant with my first son because we had several cases of meningitis come through, and my OB said "get out".

Smiley ~ Wow, you are almost ready to turn over 100 feedback. Quick! Go buy something. LOL I'd love to see missymou.

Sandra ~ Good grief! Does your business allow "no pants" in there? That's just more than you need to know about that guy.... one step below a plant!

Sharon ~ OMG, they called it right for your area. I pray you don't lose your power.
Can you climb out a window and shovel the door free?

Walt ~ You need to talk to your Dr. about your lack of REM sleep, it does a lot of damage to your body. I'm glad the snow missed you :)

Ciao ~ Snow is bad enough, but blowing snow really creates havoc. Take care.

Beni darlin ~ LOL that is so funny, I would haunt him the rest of his days.
    Thanks for the laugh.

A man had 50 yard line tickets for the Super Bowl. As he sits down, a man comes down and asks if anyone is sitting in the seat next to him.

"No," he says, "The seat is empty."

"This is incredible," said the man. "Who in their right mind would have a seat like this for the Super Bowl, the biggest sporting event in the world, and not use it?"

He says, "Well, actually, the seat belongs to me. I was supposed to come with my wife, but she passed away. This is the first Super bowl we haven't been to together since we got married in 1967."

"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. That's terrible. But couldn't you find someone else-a friend or relative, or even a neighbor to take the seat?".

    The man shakes his head.

"No, they're all at the funeral."

    Morning all!

Snow is flying and wind is whipping. Like SHARON, drifts are up against doors, and weird as it may seem, there is almost no snow on a walkway behind my house. It's like a wind tunnel there. It's hard to tell just how much snow has fallen b/c it's different amounts in different spots. I do know that south of me, has been really hit hard with much more snow. I heard on the news this morning that Washington DC had in excess of 30 inches of snow in some areas! They'll be digging out for weeks!

LR...I've built up an immunity to most of the germies the children bring to school. I do have a bottle of hand sanitizer on my desk that I use when necessary, and I make a point of NOT using the children's pencils when I'm helping them at their desks.

WALT...I love Clementines too, but also love a juicy tangelo when I can get them. They're not always available at the grocery stores here. Not to worry about me staying put today...LOL.. The furthest I'm going in the snow today is looking at it out the front window! DS is waiting for the snow to slow down, and then he'll start snow blowing.

Good morning everyone...we are socked in--have a 3 foot drift about a foot out from the garage doors--cannot open any other doors. Satellite is out--it is buried in snow. It is still dark out so in a few places I can peak out a window--it is too dark to see the damages.

Angel hugs to all who need them.

    Hi All!
Bob: You better cut some of the chow for your kids or will be like my friends cats--24 and 25 lbs and vet said their lives are shortened being so fat...

LR: Love ya talking abt your furkids and are pretty..I have a petite black cat..mostly all black and smudge of flour on left cheek and cream streak on her inner back legs..and medium long hair and she is like one of your cats--dont touch my stomach!! She loves it when I go into the recliner and she can come and get brushed and loved..she is aloof due to her being a rescue from the jaws of death!!

Pennywise: Cute kitties!! Do they love to be brushed? Patches looks like she would but dont know abt Cricket how would love it or not specially his belly like my little girl dont like it at all...Now we have lost our veternarian to Alzheimers and they closed the clinic where he worked...now have to go a good 15 miles to one and they dont have a great reputation...so we will see come Spring where I go to have Missymou shaved on tummy...
Beni: Would love to see Jellybean on here also..will have tosend pict of Missymou to Harli and she can post it for me..
We are expecting a snowstorm Monday here in Iowa and the wxman is keeping watch on it to see how and where it will land..
Take care everyone with the snow...Snow brings on heart attacks so BE CAREFUL OUTSIDE SHOVELLING SNOW!!!!!!

Bob - Mama mia and Dewey are purrfect. They are what I wanted, but it seems cats choose me rather than me choosing cats. They look so happy, hard at work. Our cats become very interested when ever we turn the printer on.

Harli - would you mind sending the email again and I'll give it another try.
We think Cocoa is probably the boss but only because he is a bit bigger. He can just sit on poor Oscar. Cocoa is a real woossy pussy. He is afraid of strangers and of anything new. Oscar is braver. Oscar has a loud purr and loves having his tummy rubbed. Cocoa hates being carried but loves sitting on laps and rubbing aginst your hand. He is a mummy's boy and follows me around everywhere. When I come out of the bathroom he is waiting at the door. I often trip on him when I turn around.
We think Cocoa has ADD. When family members are around he keeps moving to be near us. Oscar just settles in one spot and gets some hard sleeping done. Cocoa takes great delight in waking him up. They get locked in the laundry each night and sometimes Oscar puts himself to bed. Cocoa is a real night owl and has to be put in. If Oscar is asleep somewhere else, I carry him to bed and Cocoa follows me in. Sucker! In the morning Cocoa is usually up, had breakfast and is ready to go. Oscar is always asleep and gets up in his own time. Oscar knows when it is near dinner time and he is the one that nags my son to feed them.

Bob - your job is similar to a school teacher. We get a lot of children sneezing and coughing on us. I wonder if you have ever caught an Australian cold? LOL
My doctor said I would build up an immunity, but it took about 15 years I think. I wonder how Barb goes with colds and flu? Our Education Department gives teachers free flu shots each year if they want them. I usually get one. I know a teacher years ago who caught scabies. She had it on her wrist. YUCK. I have never had head lice but I check my hair regularly.

got home from shamu a bit ago in a wet drive. doing a major grocery run tomorrow but made a quick albertson's stop to get a few things on the way home. we were supposed to have rough storms tonite but they've dropped the warnings now so prob just plain ordinary rain.

i've picked up some sniffles today & am very tired, going to bed early with some help from mr. nyquil in case a cold is threatening. for those thinking i get colds often, i do, but i think alot of it is being around & interacting with hundreds of kids & adults from around the world everyday all the time. who knows what exotic deadly diseases they're infecting me with!

mama mia & dewey would say hi but they're too busy wrestling at the moment, up from their normal office routine:

Harli - LOL about the french. Mine would only be useful for telling people that the pen is on my aunt's desk and the paper is on my uncle's desk.

You'll be fine in Asutralia. We all speak American (courtesy of TV) so we will all understand you. You will understand almost everything, unless you meet a person with a real country drawl. We had visitors from England years ago and they could understand all of us except my younger sister. She spoke quicky and used slang. It sounds like you and Sandra were able to understand each other easily when she was there...so no worries, she'll be right mate.

Peeking in to check on you :) All of those in the path of the snowstorm, be over cautious and just stay home if you can. If not, take some supplies in your car in case you were stuck somewhere for hours.

Sandra Sue ~ Are you feeling any better? LOL, it was only a brown bear and your DH spent the rest of the week pacing the balcony looking for him. Nah, Im just kidding you about Australia, but every show I see says the same thing. Im quite sure Australians know where to go and what to look out for, so I expect you to take care of me. Remember, Im terrified of spiders.

Beni ~ I will watch the SuperBowl as well and while I don't have a dog in this fight, I will cheer for the Saints. I know what it's like to be the under dog.

LR ~ I haven't gotten an email from you yet, shall I send mine to you again?
Do both the cats have the same personality or is one more the boss.
I too am glad you decided to join us, you are fun to get to know.
I had 3 years of French, but when I went to France I could hardly understand them as each country has their own slang language. Besides, no one asked me if I had a yellow pencil or where is the library. LOL Geez is a word commonly used here as well.
Im getting a Australian slang dictionary before I come over, or else I'll just not talk and I can't see that happening. Sheesh!

Walt ~ Why do you think you are having such a hard time sleeping?

Sharon ~ Our weather report shows y'all getting a snow whuppin. Please be careful.
Im so happy for you that you finally got some relief for your back. I bet you feel ten years younger. Have you told your PT how much it changed your life and find out exactly what he did?

Penny ~ Your fur babies are looking a tad bit blue. LOL Which of your cats is the oldest? Isn't Patches the one that bathes with you?

Beni ~ I think jellybean was sent to you for a reason. Does she seem to miss Freddie?

Nero ~ The bad part is that when it melts, it turns to black ice after dark. Use some shoe treads if you have to go out.

Snooks ~ I agree, all those words pretty much mean the same thing. Sheesh is a kind of good grief, shaking your head, you've got to be kidding, rolling your eyes,
    kind of word.

Getting ready for the snowstorm to start. At last look, my area of NJ was in the 9-12" path, but very, very close to the 12-24" path. If this storm tracks as little as 30 miles more north, we'll see the larger amount.

LR...I'm still laughing at your comments and stories. I also enjoy your posts. Glad you're part of the board.

Sharon, you are so right. Australians almost choke everytime an American says 'fanny.' Here it can only be used to describe a part of a woman. Think front instead of back. So when that American aerobic instructor came on TV in the 80s (I can't remember his name but he had curly hair) and told us all to squeeze our fannys we all had an apolectic fit. (and thought he meant pelvic floor excercises)
Here, fanny packs are called bum bags.

Similarly with erasers. In the 70s there was a teacher shortage in Australia so some Americans took the opportunity to come out here and teach. They almost died when their students innocently asked them for a rubber. It means eraser here!

Regarding geeze, it reminds me of something.

When I was young I used to say "gee". Australians always tend to either shorten or lengthen words so it morphed into "geez". By the time I was in high school I was saying "geezes". Say that out loud. What does it sound like?
I thought I was saying an inoffensive little word, not realising I was actually saying "Jesus" until the day I got into trouble from a teacher for taking the Lord's name in vain. I felt it was very unfair. I wasn't saying 'Jesus' I was saying 'geezes'. Apparently it didn't matter HOW I spelt it I was still in trouble!

A few years later I was introduced to a guy called Phugly. I knew it was a nickname but never questioned it. I thought it may have been a play on Pugsly. When Phugly (who by then we were calling Phug of course, being Australian) went overseas for a year, he sent me some postcards and signed them 'Fugly'. "Oh," I said to my boyfriend (now my DH). "I spell it differently." That was when he explained what Fugly meant.
It is two words combined. The second word is 'ugly' and the first word is a swear word that ryhmes with 'trucking.'
You could have knocked me over with a feather. I had no idea! Vague doesn't even begin to describe me!
When I told Phugly, He laughed and said he thought I was just showing off and spelling it a 'posh' way.

I can assure you, Phug is not ugly. He is very good looking but didn't mind being called Phugly because people remembered him more easily. I don't know what his poor mother thought cause we usually called him Phugly in her hearing as well. His real name is Rob.

Penny - your cats are gorgeous. How did you get them to pose? They look like the best of friends.

Beni- I'm thinking of barracking (Aussie for rooting) for the New Orleans team because they need some good news.

Rooting is not a nice word in Australia. I even feel bad typing it. Generally a word used by young 'men' to describe what they would like to do to a young woman. Never used in polite company. Not a word you would use in front of your mother. "Making love" describes the same thing but the connotations are vastly different.

Nero - they are now predicting 12-24 inches for us of the white CARP! I'm done with winter too!

Snooks - geeze, jeese, sheesh, yikes--I think all about the same meaning! ROFLMAO

Beni - I am so thankful my back is better too--I can hardly believe the whole year I spent in pain--pretty much 24/7 - even after the cortisone shots and nerve block--which only made it tolerable--this Physical Therapist does one maneuver and I'm better! Of course, I need to keep up the exercises and keep it in place--but no problem with that. And it wasn't like I hadn't been to therapy during the year! Many times at another place--if I ever have to go for therapy again for anything--I'll be returning to this place and asking for this young fellow! Hopefully he doesn't leave!

    Good Morning All.

They're still saying the "storm" is going to stay south of us and that's o.k. with me, but I'm fearing that Barb Ciao, and Sharon are going to get slammed. I hope not, but it don't look good. Depending on how far north it does go, could affect EE and Dean.

Beni....it's the Indianapolis Colts. They left Baltimore years ago.....I'm pulling for the Saint's for the same reason...the underdog thing.....even though my team's quarterback is the brother of Peyton Manning.

Lousy night last night. Up every half hour to the hour. Finally got into the recliner about 3 a.m. Not a good night. AND for no apparent reason.....routine the same...?? What's up with that????

Barb ciao - I think that article about Australian weather was a bit confusing regarding school holidays.
We have fisrt term from Feb to Easter, then two weeks holidays. Because Easter moves, sometimes it is a very short term. Second term goes for about 10 weeks until June. Then two weeks of winter holidays. Third term goes for ten or eleven weeks (depending on how short 1st term was) and we have another two week break in September. Finally fourth term goes until just before Christmas (another 10 or 11 weeks). After 5 weeks summer holidays, the kids all move up a grade and we start again. Most teachers are paid throughout the year even on holidays. There is no expectation of professional development in the holidays. (Although I can see the writing on the wall as far as this is concerned. And many teachers undertake courses during this time anyway.)Our salaries are low compared to many professions and I know they used to be lower than American teaching salaries, but I don't know if that is still so. The low salary is a trade off for the holidays apparently. Mind you, by the time you include all the times we go into work in the holidays to prepare, late night meetings, camps and report writing, I think the Government gets the best deal. I'm sure you know what I mean! It is very rare for us to work as little as 40 hours a week but our pay doesn't change no matter how long we work.
Uh Oh. Whoa Nellie! I have accidently got on my high horse. Just wait until I climb down. Blame it on the rum and coke.

    Hello Cafe,
I have been in a very full on professional development about coaching all today and my brain has shut down. I am going to have to scroll and talk bit by bit. (I also have to admit I might have had a rum and coke.)

First of all...I WANT SOME CHICKEN SOUP! I love soup and all this talk is making me hungry, but I'm not getting any homemade soup unless I make it myself. And that's not happening. Pooh!

Sandra - we have had a bit of rain but definetely not enough for flash floods. It is quite muggy at the moment.

Beni - good to hear from you. Who is playing in the Superbowl?

Rob - I laughed out loud at your Harli sheesh comment and then had to explain the whole thing to my husband.

Harli - I'm trying to email you but I seem to have a problem. I'll try again when I finish here.

Pennywise - hello. I hope your delivery day was successful. I know you take others so they will be enthused. Good plan! Hope your cats are ok. Elderly animals suffer in the cold just like elderly people.

Good Afternoon :) I'm really surprised that those 10 Americans were charge with kidnapping and child trafficking It does appear that either something was shady or all ten were dumb as a stump in the decisions they made.

Walt ~ I hope do hope you miss the snow. Did you bring some soup to work for lunch?

Ciao ~ Sometimes I will make a summer meal and we will drive up to the mountains, and just have our picnic in our car.

Sharon ~ You are very wise to get things done before the snow comes. Wish you didn't have to leave the house when it snows like that.

Fluffy ~ It sounds like this new family is just what everyone needed. What a blessing.

Fluffy ~ I have very little use for lawyers. They are part of the downfall in America.
You don't need a million dollars for spilling coffee on yourself, you need common sense.
Between them and the ACLU, America is being held hostage.

Penny ~ I think you do such wonderful work and I know everyone appreciates it. So many times my shawl from Sharon is just right to keep me warm instead of a big blanket over me.
I was mentioning to a friend yesterday about you needing yarn and my friend thought you should contact the yarn Mfg. Let them know you do charity work and I bet they would send you some free yarn. Since it's for charity they can count it on their taxes. Might be worth a try.

Snooks ~ Git her done sounds like a plan for sure. Just play it by ear, it might not rain after all.
Its hard to walk past the puter and not stay "for just a minute"

Well, I need to call my sister and sing Happy Birthday to her. My Mother had a big think about being the first to wish you Happy Birthday, so I've taken that chore over for her. Have a great day y'all.

    Good Afternoon Cafe,

Another gray cold day..but not horribly cold as we have had in the past. We are up to 30, yeaaaaa!! I think time to pull the shorts out, LOL...

Well, waiting her for a couple ladies from my prayer shawl group to arrive...then we pick up another lady and go down to Zion to the cancer center to deliver a car load of shawls...this is my big pay off..I get such a thrill to do this..it is so inspiring there and they are so welcoming to us. Always apprecitive of our efforts.

I started PT (again) yesterday. The PT has doubts this will help much. My knees are very bad and I think I am going to have to address this issue soon. My quality of life has dropped drastically and I spend most of the day holding the chair down. Not near as active as I was....and I am not sleeping because of pain...and have to take a lot of pain meds...My legs are becoming so deformed...sigh...always something. But I have to wait for the eye to heal...I see the eye doctor next week...maybe it has made more progress...I have the "please Mr Custer, I don't wanta gooooo" attitude about doing these knees or having any other surgery...I am totally burned out! geeze.

LR...what beautiful cats...Mine are old. I give my Cricket probiotics and glucosamine...she has old age problems. I just ran out of the probiotics and my person I buy from is out...won't get them for another week...sigh..hope she does OK..

Well, I have not totally scrolled...but I hope you all are doing well and staying safe and well...I guess time for me to scoot and do last minute foo foo's before my ladies get here...hope you all have a wonderful day.

Good Morning cafe. Fingers working a little better this morning, so thought I would take advantage and do a drive by post.

where is beni? Does he have permission to be absent this long? Or is he mad at us. LOL Not likely.

I woke up a little "down in the mouth" as my gma used to say, or she also said, feeling a little blue. Not depressed, just ???? but after laying here in bed instead of hitting the floor at 100 MPH like I like to do at an early morning hour (about 6:00 a.m.), I just grabbed the laptop, turned on the tv to the news, and checked my email, and thought I would drop by here for a spell. And suddenely, I feel like getting my tush up and attem! I have lots I want to accomplish, and since the fingers, are going to allow me to use them today, I will take advantage and "GIT R DUN"..............

fan caught my attention, with "when you have no money".......so now I have to scroll and see what all he put in HIS chicken soup. I think I might have all the ingredients and then some.....so better find the chicken in the freezer and get it thawed out. I am not real fond of chicken, but if the chicken noodle soup turns out like "gourmet", I'll like it. LOL

Not sure if I am going to have a sale this Sat. It is suppose to rain, and trying to keep everything dry during the sale, is more than I want to deal with. However, I am a woman and I CAN CHANGE MY MIND!......that is our prerogative isn't it? (hope that was the right word), if not...oh well

Now that my day is half gone from my procrastination, I'm outta here.............POOF with no reload....(well maybe a little bitty one as I pass the computer)

    Morning friends!

Though today is going to be nice, we're bracing for a big snowstorm. The amount of snow is the mystery b/c if it tracks a little more south, we won't get as much. Everyone is watching this one very closely. WALT & DONNA..I think you squeak out of this one...Lucky you!

HARLI...I like your idea of making a summer BBQ dinner on a winter day. It takes the boredom out of winter.

    Good evening :)

Sandra ~ We were thinking April or May would be a good time to come visit
there. Ive got the TV on Animal Planet on a new show called recon. This guy travels the globe to collect venom for research. He was just being dropped into Australia and as he put it... the most dangerous place on the globe. LOL

Sharon ~ Good grief! A wimp is the last thing I would call you. You would have been a great Pioneer woman. That was an interesting article, thanks for sharing.

Walt ~ Now that's my kind of soup, and it will taste even better tomorrow. I make a huge stock pot and freeze some.
I made BBQ Chicken, potato salad, baked beans and a salad. A summer meal.

Marefus ~ It's nice to know they would alert you when you can get more money. There's been many times in my life when $40 was mighty handy.
Im like you on heights, especially on bridges, just looking through the grid would make me dizzy.

Nero ~ Save a couple bowls in the freezer for one of those days when you aren't feeling too good, but still want to eat.

EE ~ Yes, Laughlin is one of the places Beni goes, but stays at Harrahs. The crash was by the Edgewater Inn right on the Colorado River.

Ciao ~ I hope that even if the snow storm does show up, it doesn't get real cold and stick around for days.

LR ~ Are the kittens siblings? Both are beautiful cats. Which one gets into things the most?

E.E. No that isn't the one that beni stays at, unless he has changed. I think now he stays at Harrahs, and used to stay at the Ramada. That isn't to say he doesn't visit Edgewater. We have stayed at Edgewater. One nice thing about Laughlin, is that the Casinos are quite close together. You can walk to most of them. Harrahs is a bit of a way UP THE HILL from the rest of them. I used to walk it often, but alas, those days are over. Coming down ain't bad....LOL Actually where the car crashed in, play those machines that the car probably ran over. I can't believe that man could have been going what the newscast said. 60 MPH? The area he would have been driving from doesn't warrant that sort of speed? But stranger things have happened. So sad for the people that he killed. I bet it certainly was scary for all that saw it.

    Evening all!

Hi DONNA...we have a good chance of getting a big coastal snowstorm late Friday night and all day Saturday. Not happy about that!
Anything dealing with the government takes time. I hope you hear from the census job soon. Are you signing up with a third party auction listing service to sell on eBay again? I seem to remember awhile back that you were looking into using another service after something happened to the one you were grandfathered with.

Chicken soup sounds good to me. I enjoy eating soup even in the warm months.

Pay day today so out running errands.

Saw this in the news.. Casino Crash, isn't that the casino Beni goes too?

Sorry you all had snow, we just had a slight dusting here. Still too cold for my liking though. ~ Still no word from the census or any of the jobs I have applied to. I think I am too old (55) and have been out of work too long....eBay doesn't count.

Day tired me out...so think I will go read. I decided what was missing from my winter was my "comfort books" I have read "Lord of the Rings" every winter for probably 20 years and usually read "Atlas Shrugged" too. Love that book which is kind of strange given my political views...lol.

    Stay warm all.

This must be Chicken Soup Day instead of Tostado Day today! I, too, have home-made CHICKEN noodle soup cooking in the crockpot for supper tonight. Mine has: carrots (diced), onions (diced), 2 handfuls of navy beans, peas, potato (diced), chicken broth, dry noodles (American Beauty), and CHICKEN (diced). I cooked everything in the crockpot all night long ~ except for the noodles (I just added them a few minutes ago).

Hope we all enjoy our CHICKEN soup tonight!

    Good Afternoon All,

Beni, on SS I started at 61 as survivor. SS gentleman ask if I wanted to go under my first or second husband's account. And he checked both to see where I would get the most money. I Got a goodly amount off the second. Of course I would he was the most recently dead!! But after I had passed the 65 mark SS started mailing me to check to see if I would get more on my own earnings record. Got very presisent even started calling. So I finally contacted them and he did all the checking and paper work. It wasn't much more about $40. a month. But I hadn't believed I would get as much. They have always worked hard to see that I receive any necessary information that would net me more benefits.

Thanks for the pic. of the Mackinac Bridge, Bob, I am afraid of height but I stepped out of our van in the middle of that bridge one time to pick up our sun roof window that had come loose and blow over to where people would normally walk. Let me tell you when I leaned over to pick it up, I looked down, it was a metal grid type see thru flooring and really really far down to water. If it ever happened again they could keep the window.

Did the Election Judge bit yesterday. It was a long day but a fun one, we only got 51 voters. We were 2 precincts in this big church room. One city and us county, city probably got 150 voters. There were four of us at our precinct tables and two of the women seemed to know everyone that came thru be it city or county. They were either relative, neighbor or same church friends. It was some day and did we close up fast once we had closed. Next month when the rest of the country goes to polls I can set home and enjoy. LOL

Just a dusting of white carp here in W.Mass. Pain in the butt snow.....gotta shove it out of the way or it's trouble down the road..And they say the weekend storm may miss us again.....HOPE SO!!!!!!

Interesting on the China stuff. Not good, I'd say. But...DD is trying to enroll Emma in a Chinese Emersion Charter School in the next town over. 75% of the day is done in Chinese, and 25% in English. They say it is frustrating the first few weeks but then it takes off....I think she's got to be challenged. She's already reading some, and has been writing for awhile. I thought Spanish would be good as a second, but the more I see and read.....Chinese may be the way to go.....we'll see......

Day off today and the project will be Homemade, from scratch, chicken soup......MMMMMMMMM.. Will put everything in it.....onions, carrots, waxbeans, greenbeans, summer squash, zuchinni squash, mushrooms green peppers, red peppers.....and of course....CHICKEN!!!!!!!!

Better git....gotta sweep the driveway to the garage. DW is going to see her parents this morning and then to "work". She is also bored at the dealership, as a good part of her day is connected to sales.......

    Australian weather and the seasons

Like all countries in the southern hemisphere (the hemisphere south of the Equator), Australia's seasons follow the sequence:

    Summer: December to February
    Autumn: March to May
    Winter: June to August
    Spring: September to November
This means that the Australian Christmas takes place at the height of summer. It also means that the mid-year break for students happens in winter. The end of year break for students is commonly known as the 'summer holidays', or the 'Christmas holidays'.

Even though the four 'official' calendar seasons have the same names as the northern hemisphere seasons, the weather during these seasons is very different to northern hemisphere weather patterns. Australia is generally a very dry place, so summers can get much hotter. The pattern of rainfall is also distinct - some places have abundant rain at one time of the year and almost none at other times.

In the north there are tropical regions with high temperatures and high humidity and distinct wet and dry seasons. In the centre of the country are dry, desert regions with high daytime temperatures and low amounts of rain. In the south are the temperate regions with moderate rainfall and temperatures ranging from hot to cold.

The wet season lasts about six months in summer and spring, between December and March. It is hotter than the dry season, with temperatures between 30 and 50 degrees Celsius. This is because of the high humidity during the wet, which is caused by large amounts of water in the air. During the wet there is a lot of rain, which frequently causes flooding.

The dry season lasts about six months in autumn and winter, usually between May and October. Temperatures are lower and the skies are generally clearer during the dry. The average temperature is around 20 degrees Celsius.
