JPf16459,

There's a whole load of hits for both terms when suffixed with 'lenses'.

They seem to be quite high-end lenses too, so worth servicing.

OF LATE, I AM FEELING LOT OF DIFFICULTY IN UPLOADING THE PICTURE WHILE LISTING THE ITEM FOR SALE. EARLIER, I WAS ABLE TO UPLOAD PICTURE IN 'ENHANCED' IN A MINUTE OR SO. BUT NOW I AM UNABLE TO LOAD. AND EVEN IF I GET THE PICTURE LOADED, WHILE CLICKING ON 'LIST THE ITEM', IT SAYS THAT THE SYSTEM HAS BEEN TEMPORARILY DISCONTINUED.

I ALSO TRIED 'BASIC' AND 'STANDARD', BUT THE PICTURE IS NOT UPLOADED EVEN AFTER 8 TO 10 TIMES.

COULD YOU PLEASE HELP ME.

Is this not a contradiction?

reba02gold Most modern digital point and shoot cameras are adequate for close-ups for internet use. Even the Fuji FinePix 205A I bought years ago would do, although I've replaced it for making large prints.

OH PRO STORES DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT UNLESS YOU'VE
GOT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO BURN IM SERIOUS, IT WILL
PROBABLY PISS YOU OFF TO KNOW WHAT I LEARNED
THE GRASS IS NOT AS GREEN AS WHAT YOU MAY BE LEAD
TO THINK,THAT BEING THAT I THINK THEY HAVE A LOT OF LEARNING ABOUT
MAKING THIS BEING A SITE AND SYSTEM THAT EVERYONE CAN USE
NOT JUST PEOPLE THAT HAVE A LONG HISTORY OF SELLING
AS THEY DON'T HAVE YOUR INTEREST IN MIND
I TELL IT LIKE IT IS AND THAT'S HOW IT IS

What I learned
about pro stores is that the tech on the phone said that
it's the members that start out with out much money that are
the most successful and the least successful people are those often all most always the ones that have the most money
and they often fail because the tech aren't able to teach them
what works, they often didn't understand what it took to succeed so why this thing is not in favor for those people
just doesn't make any sense at all
oh yea and by the way to get your store to the 109 search
engines,it costs you from $1,800-$25,000 dollars and which
you will never be able to do that yourself (summit your site that is)because companies have to do it cause the time to summit changes everyday and its never the same time or day for each month so it may be 5am in the morning on Tuesday and 11am on the 28-whatever day that would fall on for example i hope this helps for anyone wanting an online store, either way the odds are stacked and stacked high of succeeding

point im making is also if your not selling like crazy
its not just magically going to pick up for you
you have to always have the best stuff at 1cent-99cents
but hope you can make money that way lmfao
i sure as hell can't afford that!!!!!!!!!
you might as well just legal up and don't even think about
any high profits until you do that cause you just are not
getting them without that dam license and name
money shovel out the cash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi photo people:

Just reporting on my new Nikon D60. It's fantastic. I was struggling with an Olympus E20P, which at best gave moderate results and at worst well ......... er - no comment.

I just can't believe the auto mode in the D60, it can 'out-do' any manual settings I can come up with. It really is super. I don't work for Nikon by the way lol. Just sooo impressed with this Nikon technology.

Ah yes, there's nothing like a new camera to bring out the shortcomings of your old lenses. Nikkor 28-105mm to be relegated to the D70 while the D700 gets a 28-75 f2.8 Tamron.

I don't know about a "cannon D5" but there is a Canon EOS 5D and the newer Canon EOS 5D Mark II. The newer Mark II has a few more features plus 21 MP compared to the older 5D 12.7 MP.
Both are good professional cameras.

earthmother1948:

All cards are not equal! And I don't mean size. Just because it fits in the camera doesn't mean it's the correct card. See that HC and the 2 on the card, that's different than a regular SD card. Check your instruction booklet and see what cards Nikon says to use, and follow their guidelines, not what an eBay listing claims. I learned about this the hard way!!

There are some E-bay photo sellers providing warranties from Repair Tech (2 - 5 year warranties)
Repairtech Inc. has gone out of business leaving thousands of customers without coverage for items purchased from retailers.
So it's a worthless piece of paper.

In the recent past the 8mp Canon PowerShot A590 IS has often been recommended for ebay and general use. It (or its replacements) may be more camera than you need for ebay, but it is nice when 8x10 or larger prints are needed. I'm certainly impressed with my A590. There may be little savings in buying a more limited camera.

Hi Folks ~ I wonder if someone could offer me a bit of needed advice...I have had a Canon Powershot S200 that i have been using for about 6 or so years now. I use it mainly to photograph the jewelery that i sell, using the machro setting.

It has been a real little workhorse and i've been most pleased with it..time for a new camera though, it is wearing out.

I would like to stick with the canon powershot family as i am a bit techno impaired and don't like the thought of totally relearning a new brand..

I have been checking them out and the price seems to depend muchly on the MP...my current one has a lowley 2 mp but has usually served it's purpose well...and they seem to range from 3.7 to 12 mp..

Can anyone suggest what might be best for jewelery close ups - goooood machro? Anything with ease of use that could be recommended other then the canon powershot..excellent machro is my first concern. And ease of use. And what about mp? - what would be a good quality but best bang for the buck? How much mp's should i be searching for?

Thanks so much - will BBL - regards

That happened to a first shooter on a wedding when I was the 2nd- he carried a Nikon with Tri-X for candids and after about 25 shots he noticed there was not much resistance when advancing the film- cause there was no film. ooops...

I have been saved by having my EOS-5D custom function set to -shoot with no CF card-->No!<--

I think everyone got at least one roll of film back from Foto-mat with everything 2 stops under exposed because we forgot to re-set the Aperture priority camera's "ASA" from 400 to 100 ??
Posted by   ( ) on Jul-14-09 at 17:14:09 PDT   Listings
There was the time as a wedding second shooter I didn't realize I hadn't put film in the camera until I got to the 38th frame.

Jim
Posted by   ( ) on Jul-14-09 at 07:10:06 PDT   Listings
I tried to never set a film back down-esp in the church- Too easy to rush off to the reception and forget it. I had a pouch on my belt.

We used to count the number of rolls we start the day with --- 10 rolls of 220 and 5 rolls of 120 was typical-- and at the end of the night *count them* and hope the heck they were all there.

A wedding photog friend of mine tells the story of digging through a dumpster at midnight with his girl friend/assistant when he came up one roll short. He figured he must have thrown out an exposed roll with the Pro pack boxes he *thought* were empty.

It turned out that one of the pro packs that he had counted as 5 rolls had only had 4 at the outset.

Another digital wedding advantage- the images are in chronological order- no more trying to collate 250 to 300 images.

Posted by   ( ) on Jul-13-09 at 16:45:03 PDT   Listings
What? no more asking forgiveness for having film backs staged where the bride's mom is supposed to sit?
Posted by   ( ) on Jul-13-09 at 12:09:35 PDT   Listings
Among the many reasons to shoot weddings with digital is the ability to create multiple originals - i.e. it's on the CF card,it's on my laptop, it's burned to 2 DVD's. No more losing or damaging a one-of-a-kind negative in the mail or anywhere. Not that I would compromise image quality, mind you. With the ability to choose ISO AND white balance on any given shot and zoom lenses, no more hitting the last shot on the roll at a crucial time, or ending the night with 20 shots left on a roll of 220. Pro-digital beats medium format hands down for weddings- even if I decided not to 'clean up' every image. Every shot is a Polaroid. No more- "oh, darn- my shutter malfunctioned" - or I did not notice that distracting background element. I maintain that the only valid reason to shoot weddings with film is not wanting to learn the techniques and buy the equipment required to go digital.

Has anyone ever heard of a bride (or father of the bride) who cared that the photog used film ? esp. after seeing the images ? Beauty is in the eye of the checkbook holder. (Monte Zucker)

Posted by   ( ) on Jul-12-09 at 13:09:10 PDT   Listings
Yea, and it wasn't just the ability to print enlargements. The skin tones finally seemed right. I'm ashamed to admit that the warmish digital tones were starting to seem normal. This particular image looked more like the Kodak Portra that fills my freezer.
Posted by   ( ) on Jul-12-09 at 10:00:27 PDT   Listings
Many wedding photographers are switching to DSLRs since they feel they can now get the same quality enlargements with digital that they used to need medium format film for.

Diana,

As long as you don't use any filters, image editing or any other things to falsely enhance you are okay. Monitor settings and adjustments vary so what you see on your screen may not be what others see on theirs.

If you get an e-mail asking, "Could you show a photo of your flower instead of one that you scanned from a catalog?" you know you have arrived, photographically speaking. :-)

Indoors use window light and a reflector; outdoors have the plant in the shade. Never use flash for anything.

Posted by   ( ) on Jun-15-09 at 12:56:51 PDT   Listings
succulents4u,

The reason for taking pictures by a window is you get natural light. Cameras are set for natural light. If you use artificial light, tungsten/incandescent, you get a yellow cast as they give off a yellow light. Then you have to adjust the white balance for that.

Not a mirror, a reflector. A reflector is just a large white cardboard or foam board (anything white) to bounce some of the window light onto the side of the subject away from the window thereby lightening the shadows on that side.

Your setup would be - the window on the right of the subject, you in the middle facing the subject and the reflector on the left of the subject.

You don't put the subject in front of the window and shoot with the window behind the subject. That would be bad. The window is to the side of the subject.

succulents4u,
It looks to me like you used the direct camera flash on that. On thin light petals, direct flash just removes any nuances of color tone or shading making it look flat and featureless, washed out. You should go with natural light even if it is just using the light from a window with the plant close to it. As I said before, don't go with direct sunlight on the plant, that my give too much hard shadow.

If you have a plant next to a window, then you place a white cardboard or foam board next to it to reflect some more window light onto the side of the plant away from the window.

finnpole,

I just take my card out of my camera, put it into the card reader and plug that into the USB port of my computer. When I am finished, I take the reader out, take the card out and put it back into the camera. I don't like having things hanging out of my computer where they can be damaged. Besides, it can be embarrassing if you take your camera out to a shoot and then realize that you left your card in the card reader back home.

I always use the resolution, size setting, that I think I will need to save space. I don't know if it is better to have the camera resize them, via the selected resolution or to do it in image editing. I would think the in camera would be better but that is just a guess.

You should head over to the threaded Photo forum:

A lot more photographers hang out there and have resources to check on your camera. I'm traveling and don't have my McKeown's camera price guide with me.

dainisjg Thanks, that site is helpful. Question on the USB card reader - do most people leave it plugged in all the time or remove it? Does it draw a lot of power away from other running programs? Also, is it better to take pics at full power or highest resolution and then make them smaller for eBay use by using an image editor or to just set the camera to the lower resolution and use the pics the way they are without having to use an image editor? Will there be any difference in the pics either way? As you can tell by my questions, I am not at all computer or camera savvy!
Thanks, Fran

finnpole Most cameras like yours have an option for shooting smaller size images. Check the setup menu for details. Your huge pics can be resized in about any image editor. I often use Irfanview for this. It is a free download. Photoshop Elements and many other programs for under $100 let one do more editing to an image. You might also be able to download the manual from the manufacturer.

Hello...I'm back, was hoping that I wouldn't have to bother you folks again but I have more questions and Canon support is closed on weekends. I bought a card reader and got the pics into my computer with no problems. But my pics came out HUGE using the auto mode. They were 1,690KB - 3648 x 2736 pixels. They should be about 60KB - 592 x 400 pixels for eBay. I have to figure out how to take smaller pics. The camera came with a "getting started" brochure, but did not include a users manual that would explain the different settings. The users manual is on the software disk. Am I correct in assuming that I can't put this disk into my computer because it is only compatible with XP or Vista and my OS is ME??

succulents4u,
If photographers have to shoot outside in bright sunlight, they use fill flash to lighten the hard shadows on subjects' faces. That is a learning curve unto itself. Easiest is to just shoot in the open shade or hold a large cardboard over the items to cut off direct sunlight.

Even indoors you shouldn't use direct flash for eBay items. That gives hard shadows by itself. Two lamps on either side should give enough light. You would have to set your white balance to tungsten/incandescent if doing that. Or the auto white balance may work well enough.

succulents4u,

I would shoot at 1.7MP. Your images end up being smaller than that anyway. The photos on two of your auctions are:

Abromeitiella brevifolia = 550px × 611px = 336,050 pixels or 0.3 MP
Aeonium burgundy = 537px × 485px = 260,445 pixels or 0.2 MP

The MP is just the size of the image, the width in pixels multiplied by the length in pixels. It has nothing to do with sharpness or clarity.

6 MP, for instance, just means an image that is about 3000 x 2000 pixels. It can be a sharp and clear 3000 x 2000 pixels image or a dull, blurry off color 3000 x 2000 pixel image. That depends on the lens, lighting , focus, sensor, camera construction, etc.

BTW, Kodak makes about three dozen different models of Easyshare cameras, Kodak EasyShare C913, Kodak EasyShare M893, Kodak EasyShare Z712, Kodak EasyShare Z8612, etc, etc, etc, etc. I had no idea of which model you have so I couldn't check the specifications for that camera.

Are those aperture numbers? The larger the aperture opening, 1.7, The faster shutter speed used which is good to freeze camera shake blur or subject motion. It has a shallow depth of field meaning that while the center of a flower is in good focus, petals closer to the camera and further away may be slightly out of focus depending on how close the camera is to the flower. Aperture 6.0 is a smaller opening and needs a slower shutter speed to let in more light. It has a longer depth of field. The center of the flower as well as the closer and further away petals will be in better focus. Shallow depth of field is good for throwing backgrounds out of focus to keep emphasis on the main subject.

It might also be a good idea to get a card reader. Just take the SD card out of the camera, put it into the card reader and plug it into the USB port. Even if it doesn't work with the ME/ Canon D480 combination, it is a handy device to have with your next camera using an SD card. It saves on camera batteries and you don't have the camera to computer cord getting in the way. They usually cost less than $10.

Wait, I was mistaken. I finally found in my manual that the Canon A570 IS can use an Ac adapter, the ACK800. So it can use an AC adapter and ME plus Vista operating systems. Starting to sound like a winner.

But, the Canon A570 IS doesn't take an AC adapter. Back to the drawing board?

Jim
Posted by   ( ) on Jun-11-09 at 21:04:01 PDT   Listings
Using a card reader might work. If I plug my A570 IS into the computer via the USB cable I get:

"Auto Play. Canon Powershot A570 IS. Import pictures using Windows"

If the ME operating system doesn't know from "Canon Powershot A570 IS" it may stall out.

If I put the SD card into a card reader and plug that in, I get

Auto Play. Removable Disk (E:) Import pictures using Windows

and they come up in Windows Photo Gallery. If the ME system doesn't have a Windows photo Gallery, that is another problem.

The A570 IS works on operating systems MS Windows ME, MS Windows XP, MS Windows 2000, MS Windows Vista, Apple Mac OS X 10.2 or later. So if You get the A570 IS it should work on your computer and on a new computer that uses Vista.
The Canon A590 IS doesn't include ME. Neither does the Canon A620.

This whole thing is irritating. Now we can no longer recommend cameras to people without first asking what operating system they have and then checking that a camera recommendation will work with that system? Good Grief.

finnpole You might try to download through one of the USB card readers into the folder where you want to save the images. I prefer doing this on an A590 to going through Canon's program.

Jim...Yup, I called Cannon support and they said it must have Vista or XP just like it states in the owner's manual. Where would one find a camera compatible with ME? If I were to find one and buy it and then my computer dies, I wonder if that camera would work on the newer OS.

finnpole, I just checked on line and my A570 IS has
"Operating System Support MS Windows ME, MS Windows XP, MS Windows 2000, ..."

Your A480 does indeed not have ME support. Bummer. The A570 IS was introduced in Feb 2007 and the A480 was introduced in Jan 2009. I guess they thought no one would still be using ME by then. If you are happy with your computer, then it might be just as well to return the camera and get something compatible with ME.

finnpole,I can't find anything on my Canon A570 IS camera manual that says what operating systems it is compatable with. Maybe there was something on the box it came in. Went and bought my A480 camera today and guess what, it needs Vista or XP and my OS is the old, antiquated Windows ME!!!! My computer will be 8 yrs old in August and still works great. They tell me it will cost about $165. to install Vista software so I can use this camera. Something tells me it would be unwise to spend that much on an old computer. Maybe I should buy a brand new computer? Any thoughts or suggestions??

kwok789,

If the meter is off a stop or two you can compensate with the ISO setting. i.e. if the photos are consistantly one stop underexposed, with 200 ISO film you would set it for 100 ISO. You could use a hand held meter or the "Sunny 16" rule. The advantage is you can get really good manual focus lenses for very low prices now.

Hello. I bought a Nikon N2000. Looks new. Close look at the body shows it has a "Japan NF" ring installed. How do I replace it with a normal lens mount> and... what is the NF used for? Never saw one before, and I've been around the 'Nikon block' for quite awhile. Thanks MUCH in advance if you take the time to respond!

goodie-finder The item appears to be an adaptor to maount an older camera to a microscope or telescope. In the days before SLRs became popular, these (or some other accessory)were necessary to focus rangefinder cameras on microscopes. Such a device for Leica cameras is shown at http://www.pacificrimcamera.com/images/92896.jpg.

I may have to head out of town for some sudden surgery my father will need, so if someone recognizes this, can you just contact me through ebay and hopefully clue me in? With everything going on, I may forget to check back here. Thank you very much in advance.

jimejonesYou are right and I just picked a brand new one up on eBay for less than $120. The Olympus 4000 is awesome for macro shots but it uses a SmartMedia which the largest card being 256k and very expensive. Also it does not take the best regular photos and does not record sound in movie mode. It is also pretty bulky.

webtransact<\b> Better to buy yesterday's proven camera than today's unknown, especially when the price is right. It has the viewfinder we fine useful, provisions for using standard filters, and good manual control. As for not being the newest, neither is my Leica M4. It still produces fine photos after 39 years. So do even older Speed Graphics.

webtransact, I'm not too sure why you don't like the Olympus you have for all around use. Although it would be better to have a longer zoom for vacation shots and such. And having at least 8MP would be better if you want to make 8x10 inch prints.

I used to do a lot of photography with SLR film cameras, my own darkroom and even view cameras. Now when I took my grandson to Fort Pulaski here in Savannah, I just put a Canon A570 IS in my pants pocket to take some photos. Works for me:

Looks like the best of those for my budget is the A590 which is discontinued and apparently a pretty old model. Would you still recommend it? I forgot to mention I also definitely want one with a viewfinder for bright days. Any other suggestions?

Thank you

Hi Jim, This would not be for eBay use. I have a couple of trustyn old Olympus Camedia 4000 cameras for that! But thank you for the suggestion. I will check them out.

webtransact, For eBay and all around use, the Canon A series Powershot cameras are usually recommended. Canon A570 IS, A590 IS, A620, etc. The IS stands for "image stabilization" which helps to prevent blurry shots from camera movement.

I am looking for a new point and shoot camera for under $200 that uses AA batteries. I would like it to have good to great picture quality given the limitations of the price and camera type. I would also prefer one that is simple to use and not to bulky. Any suggestions on a model? Thank you.

I am trying to hook up a new Sony Cybershot camera to a new Dell computer - the problem is the Sony CD-rom does not show anything on the monitor; I can hear it humming, but nothing else! Any ideas?

Been experimenting with Kodak Portra. When you convert color photos to black and white you don't always get the results you want. Portra seems to produce results that look like you used BW to begin with.

Well, I guess the crisis is over! LOL I was fiddling with it some more and noticed this little button that says "display" and sure enough, I can switch between the LCD and the viewfinder. I had somehow pushed it while carrying it along and turned off the LCD.

The zoom does work, it just doesn't move more then about 1/8" overall from distance to closeup. I guess I just never noticed it before. Also re-tried (with the LCD on this time) transferring all the images and it worked fine. Guess all is well and I had a "duh" moment!

Hmm, looks like the photo board has slowed way down lately! But I"ll give it a shot anyway.

I have a problem all of a sudden that has me stumped. I have a fairly new Canon S5 IS that has worked perfectly so far. I went for a short walk a few minutes ago and took it along. I flipped the LCD screen open and turned on the camera. It came on fine. I zoomed in, took a picture, zoomed out, took another, walked a little more, took a few more no problem, walked again and went to shoot one last picture. Problem is/was/still is, the LCD is now blank and the lense zoom will not work in or out. BUT, when I cycle the camera off, the lens retracts full speed just fine. When I turn it back on, it shoots the lens out just fine, but no manual zoom. Well, it will twitch a tad but not like it's supposed to.
My first thought was dead batteries so I came home and loaded in my standby rechargeable's but it's exactly the same thing. I then hooked the USB to my camera and "tried" to transfer the 3 images and it seemed to work but I never found them on my computer where they usually end up.

Something is goofy for sure. Anyone have any idears??????? I did get the 4 year warrantee from Best Buy, just hate to send in my baby so soon! LOL

This is information for pet owners. There is a US bill that is fixing to go to the subcommittee on April 23rd that may effect your rights as a pet owner and might possibly even cause your pet to be euthanized. If passed, it will also seriously effect the 40 billion dollar per year pet and pet supply industry in the US and also create severe job loses. This is a very serious matter. The bill is HR 669. If you want to know about this bill and find out how you can help to stop it from passing, go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FPfL212CB8 and http://www.nohr669.com/

It all depends on your distance away from the talent. The 70-200mm will almost fill your frame with the talent's head if you're in the first couple of rows.
