By the same token, one can't help but wonder what Sarah Palin would do after a terrorist attack. Go on TV and wink at the camera?????

morning all y'all

Louis,(rousemark) how great it is to see you posting on the board again. You have been missed. Funny bit about Sarah Palin. There was such a stink made by main stream media about the words she had written on her hand, that on the Super Sunday with Palin that I attended , she once again had words written on her hand,. They said
"Hi Mom".I love her sense of humor. and "backatya" to the press...giggle.

In response to an earlier statement:
Haven't seen or just refuse to see? I can admit to having done that before myself. --- Mike What bothers me most is Obama has now been president for a full year and yet he & wife (first lady) Michelle, the Christian family they claim to be, have not attended church since the inauguration.
Obama is the 1st president in history who did not attend any Christmas religious observance. "He must miss Reverend Wright! "
And finally, he is the 1st president to remain on vacation after a terrorist attack.
See none of that was politics, only religion. LOL

I wonder if 2 tickets from the "super sunday with Sarah" would sell on ebay in the political memorabilia category? Think I'll try it...Giggle

Well yesterday was gorgeous, definately shorts weather in the 70's ..even sat outside and read for a while. But then last nite the cold front hit....and they are saying maybe snow on Thursday. Where is "Al Gore's Global Warming" when you need it...LOL...

Vince, welcome to the chat board. The glass market is like everything else, up and down.Mike who is 55 says he is only collecting a few things, well I'm 70 and selling everything. My kid has not interest in it, except what he has already "appropriated" from Mom's collection, so I'm selling everything else so he doesn't have to many years from now...LOL.

FRan, love the froggie.

French toast for breakfast this morning.

Louis - LTNS! How nice of you to stop by. We still have Thumper - she's just turned 14. Like us, she's a bit grayer, doesn't see or here as well, but plugs right along. Hope all is well with you & yours.

Suzy I realised the reason you could not see my listing was because I had it listed to Australian Only buyers. It just took me awhile to find where I could change to sell Internationally, they had all that hidden on the SYI form. This item needs to be visible for International bottle collectors.

Suzy I have a few items here that will be eBayed, because I know that is where I will get the better money for it. But for the majority of my items, I will price & be travelling around and selling at the Swapmeets. I can get just as much for those items & maybe more, because the buyer can hold, touch, feel and not have to pay shipping fees.
Great pic of the label, I am sure Mike will be very interested in that one, if he doesn't already have it

Good Evening All!

Oh Julie I'm so glad you listed an item! Sometimes it takes just one to kind of start up again. I will be watching for it, as I just looked and didn't see anything yet. Good luck to you!

I wanted to share this with anyone who may not have seen a piece with an actual label still on it. It's a piece of Anchor Hocking Prescut...a cruet.

I haven't seen one with a label attached before so thought it was kind of neat.

Yes Gail, I saw the big white flakes falling this morning here too but none of it stuck thankfully but brrrrr sure is cold tonight...25 degrees here right now while you are probably sawing logs right about now...lol

Well thats about it for me for now....Suzy

I have actually finally decided to list an item after all this time, easy 18months since I last listed.Think I have done it correctly
NOW Lets see what happens :) or doesn't happen :(
Thanks Jesse regardless of the slower then normal swap, I did enjoy myself. We (as in the couple that I followed) made an event of it. We stopped somewhere nice on the way for lunch. And after we had set up our stalls and it was dinner time, we got out the food, opened a nice bottle of wine, sat back, relaxed and enjoyed each others company.
BTW Jesse I sent you a few emails with my new addy and they all bounced back, so will have to use the gmail addy for you, like I do with NancyP, Gail and Susu.
Gail well actually the rain did not bother me. All that rain, the countryside was so gorgeous, so green and so clean and fresh looking. We travelled along a beautiful part of our country. But sadly it seemed that it kept some away, maybe it wasn't the rain , maybe just the times. ppl haven't much money to spend & are being a little cautious. Who knows really... why.At least I came home with more $$$ then I went with , and that's with all the costs taken out, so that's a plus :)

Julie ... so sorry to hear of the weather. Sounds quite miserable and discouraging both for the sellers AND the buyers.

Fran ... oh, glad to know you are not in the area of mudslides.

Looks like we lost Vince there.

Well, I got my boxes all packaged and ready to slip the packing slip in and close it up IF the people would only PAY ME! ROTFLOL....minor detail.

Well, time to turn in for the night. Hope everyone has a pleasant evening.

Vince, another reason for the ups and down in this market is that a good chunk of the collecting public is or was only collecting as a fad because of TV shows like the Antiques Road show etc. Like most fads they tend to fade and a good deal of those folks move on to the next big thing like home make-over shows and doing that with their money instead. The 1990s saw a lot of fad collecting and eBay roared back then when there was so much competition to get things. Supply and demand rule this market and collecting tastes go in and out of style which effects the value of things.

Early on in my collecting hobby I believed it was worth something just because it was old or antique, but I soon learned the truth and also learned to become a better collector as time went by.

Re; what rousemark\Louis mentioned; I'm about to turn 55 and I have pretty much given up the way I use to collect. I'm only interested in fewer, special things I really and truly like now rather than just buying a lot of things simply because they're a pattern match. --- Mike

Where's MM when we need POPCORN????... ROFLMAO...

wattle / Julie... Glad your back home safe and sound... at least you get a nice 2 weeks off before you have to do it all over again...

oklahomasong / Gail... I'm not watching TV, I'm working on pictures and listings to start wednesday night when this set that is listed ends... I actually know all of these except for one and according to chatabout site the etch is unknown... so will post it tomorrow to see if any of you smarter than me knows it or recognizes it...

Vince... Welcome to the Glass Chat... I'm a seventies baby and I collect things from the EAPG and Depression ERA... I've been buying more than normal lately because the price has been right... I'll sit on it and look at it for a couple more years till the market improves and if NOT someone in my family after I'm dead and gone can either appreciate it some more or sell it then...

Well I have had enough of this computer today... I need to go stretch on the couch and watch some TV before I go to bed... Y'all take care and stay warm and all of you in the Midwest I sent this white stuff your way... Should be arriving in the AM or early afternoon... LMAO... Night, Jesse

Vince: Glass prices are like the stock market. They are up and down. It seems that with the exception of the truly "extreme" rarities, we are in a down market today. If you take a look at the carnival glass prices for the last few years on www.ddoty.com I think you will find this to be generally true.

One of the reason's for the depressed prices is the reason Kelli gave. Another is the fact that most folks tend to collect what they remember from their parents' homes and their grandparents' homes when they were growing up. Collecting in earnest for most people starts in their mid 30s to early 40s. Collecting tends to taper off around 60 as by then most collectors have all the pieces of their collection except for the really hard to find ones. That means that the current crop of collectors grew up in the 50s, 60s and 70s. That is the reason that interest in common pieces of EAPG, Carnival, Custard, Depression Glass seems to have declined. HI Gail The Swapmeet was fair. It was down on crowds this year and sellers. And nope didn't burned up from the heat, it rained the whole 5 hour trip getting there. Stopped while we set up and then started again Sat night. Stopped Sunday morning , but then sprinkled on and off through out . Once we were all packed up and ready to head off, it poured down rain again and pretty much rained the whole 5 hours on the way home. Now to get organised for another Swapmeet in 2 weeks time.

Vince 1950puco, welcome to the glass board! Let's see, we have quite a few nice Okies who are members, lol. Answering your question - since the internet and eBay, glass values have taken a dive, for certain. What was once thought "rare" or at least "scarce" and hard to find is now more accessible, and as such - less valued. The exception of course being the truly rare pieces - sometimes they will still turn up and sell for quite a bit more than old book values.

We have several members who have sold/collected for many many years, and hopefully some of them will pop in with more recent information for you.

rousemark , of course she doesn't have to have a teleprompter to speak to 6th graders, because she's right on their educational level maybe and can read off of her hand and other body parts. Plus she's not the President of the United States and doesn't have all of the real problems to deal with on an everyday basis like the President does. At least he has an excuse for making a mistake, while she's just a load and has plenty of free time to practice what she wants to say, but still chooses the lazy way. --- Mike

Every time I sit down it's time to head back out again. Unfortunately this time it was word that an elderly church lady broke her hip and was taken to the Tulsa hospital, so off to the florist to get her some flowers. She's only recently moved here and it must be lonesome to be in a big city hospital where you know no one...particularly after you've just moved from a different State and are trying to meet people. Several people have sent flowers, so hopefully that will perk her up a bit to know that folks are thinking of her.

Our snow very kindly fizzled out. It damp but no longer snowing or even raining. We were quite fortunate. Think it's all heading over to Jesse/jrm*rock! Don and Kelli get it in NM and then send it my way and I try to pass it on to Jesse as fast as I can. LOL

Forgive me Glassies bbut this was funny and appropriated for a 17 year old who went off to the big university in 1948 and who had never seen a football game.
It was What It Was, Was Football by Andy Griffin
Song Lyrics:
What It Was, Was Football

It was back last October, I believe it was. We was a-goin’ t’ hold
a tent service in this college town.
And we got thar about dinnertime on Saturday And different ones
of us thought we ought to get us a mouthful to eat before
that we set up the tent.
And so, we got down off of the truck and followed this little bunch of
people through this small little bitty patch of woods.
And we come up on a big sign, says “Get somethin’ to eat here!”

And I went up and got me two hot dogs and a big Orange drink.
And before I could take ary mouthful of that food this whole raft of
people come up around me
and got me to where I couldn’t eat nothin’ up like—
and I dropped my big Orange drink. I did!

Well friends, they commenced to move and they wasn’t so much
I could do except to move with ‘em.
Well, we commenced to go through all kinds of doors and gates
and I don’t know what all, and I looked up over one of ‘em
and it says “North Gate”, and we kept on a-goin’ through there,
and pretty soon we come up on a young boy.
And he says “Ticket, please…” And I says “Friend, I don’t have a ticket.
I don’t even know where it is that I’m a-goin’.” I did!

Well he says “Come out as quick as you can.”
And I says “I’ll do ‘er—I’ll turn around the first chance I get.”
Well, we kept on a-movin’ through there and pretty soon everyone
got where it was that they was a’goin’ because they parted
and I could see pretty good. I could!

And what I seen was this whole raft a people a-settin’ on these
two banks and a-lookin’ at one another acrosst this purty little
green cow pasture! Well, they was! And somebody had took
and drawed white lines all over it and drove posts in it and
I don’t know what all! And I looked down there and I seen
five or six convicts a-runnin’ up and down and a-blowin’ whistles!
They was!

And then I looked down there and I seen these pretty girls
a-wearin’ these little bitty short dresses and a-dancin’ around,
an’ so I set down and thought I’d see what it was that was
a-gonna happen. I did!

And about the time I got set down good, I looked down there
and I seen thirty or forty men come a-runnin’ out of one end
of a great big outhouse down there! They did!
An’ everybody where I was a-settin’ got up and hollered!
And about that time thirty or forty come a-runnin out of the
other end of that outhouse and the other bank full—
THEY got up and hollered!
An’ I asked this feller that was a-settin’ beside me, I says
“Friend, what is it that they’re a-hollerin’ for?”
Well he whopped me on the back and he says
“Buddy, have a drink!”
Well, I says “I believe I will have another big Orange.”
An’ I got it and set back down.
An’ when I got back down there again, I seen that them men
had got in two little bitty bunches down there.
They had—real close together--and they voted! They did!

They voted and elected one man apiece.
And them two men come out in the middle of that cow pasture
and shook hands like they hadn’t seen one another in a long time.
And then a convict come over to where they was a-standin’ an’ he
took out a quarter and they commenced to odd-man right there!
They did!

Well, after a while I seen what it was that they was a-odd-mannin’ for.
It was that both bunches-full of them men wanted this funny-lookin’
little punkin to play with! They did, and I know friends that they
couldn’t-a eat it ‘ cause they kicked it the whole evenin’
and it never busted!

But anyhow what I was a-tellin’ was that both bunches-full wanted
that thang and one bunch got it an’ it made the other bunch
just as mad as they could be and friends I seen that evenin’
the awfullest fight that I’d ever seen in my life!
I did! They would run at one another and kick one another
and throw one another down and stomp on one another
and grind their feet in one another and I don’t know what all!
And just as fast as one would get hurt they’d tote him off
and run another’n on!

Well, they done that as long as I set there but pretty soon
this boy that had said “Ticket please…” he come up to me and

lucy Do you remember a song a that went what was it ? It was football! I think that Tennessee Ernie Ford did it in about 1951. Have good time at the thrift.

I have a note from a buyer that she has been trying repeatedly to pay through PayPal but keeps getting ' come back in 30 minutes.' The order came though but not the payment.

Gail the vase is not yard sale material but it wont make a payment on your new car. I've never seen a collection of these but would think the sensory overload would be as bad a the Chihuly bridge in Tacoma, WA museum.

Back from my second run this morning to the PO. That is something I NEVER complain about. Going to the PO means something has sold and that is a GOOD THING. Snowing like crazy though now. Was just raining when I started the morning.

Bill, Janice, & George ... thanks for the comments on my vase. I will post it on the PGP board. But even if they can't answer it, you've helped me by saying possibly Victorian and not told me to put it in the yard sale.

I keep laughing at the comments on The Who, because I don't know them and I keep hearing in my head my own comment "Who, who?" and it makes me think of a choo-choo train.

Wow, it's really big huge fat snowflakes. The ground is so warm there's no accumulation. Jut pretty to see it falling.

Just me,
Gail

Good day all, congrats to the Saints and their fans, The Colts played a great game too, except for Manning giving it away.

The Who? I hate to say it, but first time I wished a group would have lip-synced, plus it might have been more interesting had they not chosen songs which are already played to death in TV commercials. Carrie Underwood and Queen Latifah weren't much better, but still better. We had a good crowd, half & half fan-wise. --- Mike

Mawnin!
How many things are wrong with this listing. 220553119567

HELEN: great sale! Love it!

GAIL: I suck at IDing but with your description it sounds valuable!!!

Game was astronomically fantasmagorically transcendentally fantabulous!!!! I screamed so much the dog got barking. Rick couldn't hear his brother on the phone. And THE WHO... loving it! I never could tell when words were forgotten as I was singing so loudly and I thought the off-key start was more than made up for as they warmed up. It was so exciting to hear the entire stadium chanting with them. Yes, it brought back the days... And Clydesdale/cow commercial was my fave, too. Must say that Doritos and Denny's were tied for 2nd in every one of theirs! But some others were so LAME!

Must get listing today. Trying to make a healthy decision on pricing GWTW lamp. They're all over the map with dollar amounts, FPL's, Auctions, Auctions w/reserves. I'll just have to throw a dart and see where it lands.

Can't list that Ansonia clock until the key comes in the mail. Had to order one from an EBer. I need to know it keeps time and chimes, etc. I'm sure it does as every time I move it I get ticking for a while and When putting it in a box for safekeeping the chimes clanged a bit - very mellow!

Can list 2 pieces of ID'd brilliant though, talk about things are that priced all over the place! And my silly glass washboard.. that's got to be listed. I'm not relying on glass, either. Have sold in past couple of months a few cameras, bibles, dictionaries, dvd player, hard drives, modems, and other boring junk interspersed with a little glass. Rick says I have to sell the other crap to support my glass habit! HAH!

Make it a good day, Everyone!

Gail,

Good morning, glassies. Got to hit the road before long and get errands run and go to the PO before the snow arrives this afternoon. I really don't mind the weather if it wasn't for the fact that I either have Ginny tracking mud through the house or have her staying in the house all during the day. She's so big and the house is so small. Not a winning combination. LOL.

I posted pics 2days ago at Feb-06-10 at 13:07:07 PST and no one has offered a peep. Any clue at all as to what direction I might take to look for an ID... or if it's just yard sale fodder?

Just me,

Lucy - eat fruit to satisfy the sweet thing. The fructose in sugar burns better than the sucrose in junk food, i.e., it doesn't mess with your insulin production as much. A half banana and a fistful of almonds does it for me. A green apple takes longer to eat and staves off the sugarmeister in me, too. It's a very low sugar fruit. Believe it or not, bananas are only medium sugar so having half a banana isn't so bad! Watermelon and cantelope are low sugar. Hard to believe it, huh?

I know, I have to concede to the sweet monster every once in a while, but I pick fruity things like strawberries and cream or blueberry pie and leave the bottom crust on the plate. Sometimes I sprinkle raw cocoa into my horrid detox shake in the a.m. no sugar in that and I get a chocolate fix! So, without doing detox, you can put some melon, 1/2 a banana, some low sugar apple juice and a teaspoon of raw cocoa in the blender, add ice, blend more and VOILA you have something resembling a wonderful smoothee.

If you eat more protein you crave less sugar, too. Ain't fun but it's doable! Good luck.
Janice
PS: Don't try to be perfect. I did and ended up having a 20 min meltdown a couple of weeks ago. We are not perfect beings. My sugar is WAY down in spite of my cheating!

SO........ while I'm watching the Superbowl, 2 of my pieces have been ID'd on the PGP board. Wonderful! Even though I screwed up posting pix miserably and deserve a thrashing.

Did everyone see THE WHO during halfitme? Fantasmagorical! I loved it! THen again, they're my age!

Scrolling up the board...

Alicia ... someone may have already answered, but looking at the eapgpatterns, it would appear it is a sugar in search of a lid. I love that website, but the one real drawback is that they don't give measurements. So who knows...maybe the spooner or celery look just like the sugar....who knows without a pic or measurements.

Lucy ... well, I'll have to go search that on the map because I sure wasn't aware of a Gail, OK. How nifty!

Hah...the scroll wasn't too long! How funny. Guess everyone's watching the Super Bowl. Must be time for me to seek out Spider Solitaire. :o)

Hello everyone.

Janice , what a great find! I remember you mentioning it when you first found it, but I must have missed the pics. The PGP board is a bit confusing at first. The cool thing though is that there is a preview box. You can create your post then hit preview. If it didn't come out, you hit edit and get another chance(or in my case, maybe three or four) to get it right. There has been a lot of discussion over there also in regards to, pics or links. Most people prefer pics, but some who are on dial up, such as Dori, ask that you post one pic and any others as links. That way the ones who won't click on links, can see your item and know whether or not they can be of help, but it doesn't keep the post from loading, for those who have a slower connection.

LUCY, I have been thinking about you. My super lucky baby sister just won $10,000 on a scratch off lottery ticket. She won $35,000 a few years ago and a couple of months before that she won a chance on our California lottery, Big Spin program. She only won $1,800.00 that time. She has won a $1,000 too many times to count. I've gone to Bingo with her probably 5 times and she won $1,200 three of those times and $250 one of the other times. I quit going, I never even got close. She says when she hits the big one we're all gonna get lucky! Whoo hoo, come on Sis!

I picked up this piece of EAPG Lens and Star. It is 6 and 3/4 inches tall and 3 and 5/8 inches wide at the opening. I have found it listed as a celery vase, an open sugar and a closed sugar missing it's lid. There is no wear or roughness around the top. Neither E&C or R&J, have any information for this pattern. Can anyone help me determine what this piece is?

oklahomasong/Gail Thanks for the advice. I probably will go down the middle--- start a rather high price with no reserve.

I have to be for the Colts. But my 55 year old Down's Syndrome nephew has the system. He has his own little add on apartment at the back of his parent's home. He loves all sports and watches all of them . His five brothers and sisters have made sure that he has T-shirts, caps, jackets , etc from all of the teams so he is often wearing the appropriate attire. Anyway, he roots for whoever is winning. The family says that it is quite amusing to hear him as he switches back and forth. Yeah Colts! Yeah Saints!

Shelly, I don't actually live near the Jersey shore, I live near New York City (the northeastern corner of NJ). Southern NJ got a ton of snow, we didn't get any. There was a "high" above us that kept the "low" with the storm from pushing north and our air was so dry that the little bit of snow that did fall evaporated before it hit the ground. So the only snow outside is the little bit that is left from last Tuesday night's light snowfall.

Janice This is one way to post pictures as pictures which the PGP prefer also like several in a post so as many as possible can be on the 1st page.
~The easy way to post a picture here~
1-Click here--> http://tinypic.com/
2-Click Browse and find your picture on your computer. Double click your picture twice and that will enter the info into the box at tinypic
3-Click Upload Image
4-Click on the 1st line and it will turn blue. Right click with your mouse and Copy
5-Come back here and Paste in the Reply box

Also Measurements and a View of the Bottom, and
a Side View is always helpful~

HI JANICE I always use links on the boards, mostly because I do not know how to put pictures in, and if I would it would be by accident..
Well I will say The saints have done well the last time I rooted for the Sts was when who was it Deon Sanders was playing.. or was it Jr. Seau.. Wow that was a few years back I think.. Shelly

SHELLY - I think the majority of folks are behind the Saints for several reasons; Katrina, they've never won before, they've hosted a bunch of games but never get to play, and so on. I'm for PAYTON today! (although ah loves PEYTON!)

GAIL, SHELLY - I thought we had to put the pictures in = not the links? I'm so corn-fuse-ed! OK, I try doing links.

JIML - that was cool! Thanks!

OOPS I see a Saints fan there. HI JIM, hoping its a good game, and I have no doubts, no matter who wins..

KASI Thank you I have bookmarked it, never saw it before..

CARMA, Oh I like that Syrup, hope you find out who might have made it..

GAIL: You can always tape the game then FF through the game to see Commercials.. Think that is what I will do in case DH wants to see it again..
As for your Candle Sticks/Candle Holders, I believe the Sticks to be tall and the holders low. as for one word or two use both.. BWDIK.. Shelly

Oh, how I hate trying to use the PGP board. I don't see how you attach pictures and can't get through to the board help page... am told I don't have access to that or some stupid thing. I left a message anyway and hope someone will take pity and help me, but how do you post pictures over there? If I insert the link from tinypic will the picture appear? Or just take the link from my pictures?

Mahnin'All: Thought I would throw up a couple more pieces of "unidentified" from my Art Glass stash. The first is a very unusual covered Syrup. Stands 7" tall. Blown, finely polished pontil, with a delicate pastel iridescence and decorated. The metal top and hinge fixture appear to be Pewter. The handle is applied and the color of it perfectly matches the green leaves of the painted decoration. The quality of the glass and the iridescence remind me very much of Steuben's Verre de Soie. I keep thinking that I have seen this same exact painted decoration motif on other Art Glass pieces, but just can't pin it down.

Syrup

Syrup

Syrup

Syrup

The next is an iridescent Art Glass Vase, 8 1/2" tall, in a smokey gray color. Beautiful quality glass, finely polished pontil, nice multicolor iridescence and it does have the "onion-skin" stretch effect around the top edge. When I first got this, I thought perhaps from Imperial's Free-Hand or Lead Lustre line, but it does not quite match anything there. Could also possibly be Posinger, but I'm not 100% convinced of that either.

Vase

Vase

This third piece, which I just got, I have already identified & just thought I'd share it as show & tell. It's an iridescent 9" Vase, with applied Emerald Green glass, made by Kralik, circa 1905. It's Kralik's version of Loetz Nautilus line.

Kralik

If anyone has any thoughts on the first two, I'd appreciate any input.

MOrning all y'all

"Geaux Saints" I took the Saints plus 5 points earlier in the week...Whodat?

Lots to do this morning, before leaving to see Sen Dan Patrick, Governor Rick Perry and Gov Sarah Palin.Pick up tickets at will call at 1pm supposed to begin at 2pm and out of their in time for the super bowl. Plan to DVR pregame in case I'm late getting home.I have a feeling there won't be much of a crowd because of superbowl. But "old teaparty supporter me" is definately going. Suppossed to be 55 degrees, but if I start to get cold, I'll definately leave ( I just can't take the cold at my age)3 of my friends are supposed to meet me there, hope we can meet up but in that crowd who knows?

Y'all have a good day now , yahere?

Good morning, glassies.

Helen ... so much of how to price and list depends on you, your business, your finances, your personality. We each are so different. I don't have the reputation built up with a faithful following to be confident that I could put on something for 9.99 and count on it being bid to its full potention. I find that works mainly for people who specialize in certain areas, but not so well for those who have big variety of items for sales in lots of different categories. Book Value anymore is so often "over the top" inflated. For ME, my rule of thumb is "what is the least amount I will take that if it sells for only that I will not cry on the way to the Post Office."

You bought the item at a yard sale so for you that bottom price might be 49.99 or 99.99 or 199.99 or 499.99. I do not use Reserve for anything. I think that mainly annoys, JMHO. I had an item I paid big money for and I started it at 499.99. so as you can see, I'm not squeamish at starting above 9.99. LOL.

I'm trying to figure the starting price on 2 items I have. I think I'll start quite high actually because I love the items enough that they bring me a lot of pleasure. The only thing that would ease the pain of losing them would be an adequate amount of money. LOL. too true! I really meant that!

As far as the different dates, I would just say in the description...Book Such-n-such says 1870s. Web site Such-n-such states 1880s. I would ignore the "unknown manufacturer" reference as that book is probably out-dated by now.

All of the above is my opinion...how long-winded I am!

Susu ... thank you very much for help with the category. Ye gads, didn't even realize there was a 40/50/60 Libbey category. Perfect.

Time to get ready for Church.

Just me,
Gail

Good morning glassies,

The snow storm left us about 5" of snow on Friday. Yesterday we had gentle winds to push the snow off the tree limbs. And then a beautiful bright sun the rest of the day. We are supposed to get more snow tomorrow.

I come with foot in hand today to ask for advice on listing an item. Some of you will remember that I had the good fortune to find this at a garage sale::
http://img.auctiva.com/imgdata/2/9/9/7/2/3/webimg/308180000_o.jpg

Not a problem IDing it but how to describe and list it. One book says Gilinder , c 1870. A site by Pamela K. Zachary states Gilinder , 1880s. While another earlier book says unknown manufacturer. I can go with the 1870s , 1880s.

Reilly & Jenk's give a BV of $550. What should I do? Start at BV or less? Start at less with a stated reserve?

I note that the Zachary site does not have an image of this piece. I would like to do two things about that. First contact her with an image. And to let her know that I am going to auction the piece on eBay. Being the non-techie that I am I do not see a way to contact her. Help there. please.

Thanks, Helen in Indy

Thanks All for edification and suggestions. It's 1 a.m. and I can't sleep, having had 2 evening naps. TSK! I hate that! So I'm scrolling.

Loved the "Geaux Saints" cheer! Last night I watched the "Rachel Maddeaux Sheaux". Everywhere I went today I heard "Who Dat?" I think the entire country wants N.O. to win - maybe even the Colts fans! I am, of course, a Pats fan, but am for this weekend only a Saints fanatique de la Cap De Poissons!!

Enchantress: A week? I couldn't do it. I have a 48 hr rule when it comes to relatives. On the 3rd day, just like fish, they start to smell bad!

My Super Bowl treat: stupid trail mix of raw nuts, raisins, dried banana chips and sunflower seeds. Oh Joy. Oh Rapture! For my cocktail I think I'll put my filtered water on ice made from filtered water. Again with the joy and the rapture.

Nite nite,
Janice

Janice, I think you're thinking of the PGP Board, where they prefer that different pieces get their own threads. Also Angela's Glass Board - it makes it easier then for people to comment on one item. Here, however, if you just number your items and put them in one post, it helps us because of the 200 post rule. Things scroll off too quickly when we use up lots of posts.

Clear as mud?

Sorry have been absent for a while, we had relatives visiting from Wisconsin - they've gone back home, after a week's visit. Hallelujah. :D

Gail - how cute! No answer for you though... sorry.

I've been through all the books I have and not one glimmer of an idea on any of my brilliant shown below (13:19 - 13:28). Does anyone ever ID their brilliant or should I resort to the standard "exciting blend of hobstars, whirling pinwheels and fans that reflect light in spectacular fashion"? Blah, blah, blah. It's so pretty it should all have a pedigree!

George - if I lump a lot together in one post I'm told to put them in separate posts; now you say put it all in one post. You folks get together and make a rule, okay? LOL!

So pleased with my Ansonia clock and GWTW lamp! I also got a baseball signed by Johnny Damon (the traitorous beast went from Beantown to the Damn Yankees!). And a glass washboard. And all that brilliant. I was a bad, bad girl. Not my fault - can't have chocolate, gotta shop!

jerseystar: I'm starting to lean more towards Tiffin too. I had a piece of their Sky Blue Satin Opalescent a couple years back. The quality & feel of the satin texture on this Pitcher is very much the same. Also the tone & density of the opal rim seems much the same. The Sky Blue piece I had showed a faint "sheen" of the "fire" of the opal throughout the body of the piece. This Pitcher has that too.

Still checking through Tiffin sources, but I've been at it, off & on, all day, so I'm calling it quits for the night. Going to go fix a snack & watch TV for a bit.

Carma, although the weather maps showed it snowing here, apparently the air was so dry that the snow evaporated before it hit the ground. By the way, I know very little about glass, but that beautiful satin finish definitely reminds me of Tiffin.

I knew this day would come. One of the local estate outfits is now charging to get in early. If you buy their $100 anual membership, you get in at 8:00 instead of 9:00. This is an outfit I've spent multi-thousands at over the years. They had one house they did 5 sales in, that literally kept me supplied for a whole summer. Now I KNOW I'd come out ahead if I forked over the hun, but if I do it at their company, who's next? Am I going to have to buy a membership at every regular estate outfit in town?

About that Findlay Onyx listing: registered mail isn't really all that expensive. For a 2 lb package, even at $3000 coverage, you pay an extra $17.15. So for MN to CA it would be $25.75. But if you look at the whole description, he said he put in $50 shipping, but he's really only going to charge actual cost--Bob

Might anyone know this vase? It's 9" tall, looks like a translucent milk glass with a thin beige wash over it and then hand enameled decoration. The second pic I took with a flash and the bird and flowers show up better, but it gives the erroneous look of being opaque. The mark on the bottom looks Arabic.

Good afternoon glassies from cloudy NJ -- never did get any snow, even though the weather map makes it look like it's snowing here.

Chris/quadmomp, for future postings, separate the links for different pieces with some sort of description (e.g., bowl with roses, blue opalescent bowl). That way people will know there is more than one piece and not just six different views of the same piece. Or you can number the pieces, which also makes it easier for people referring to them. If I look at the first link and see that it's something I don't know, I won't necessarily click on all of the other links.

quadmomp Turn the blue bowl over with a Plain back ground, that lace is confusing, and take a pic showing the fee and decoration. It has an English feel from what I can see but a better view is needed.

Thanks Mike that was the name I was trying to come up with. At $1.00 I am not too concerned.

quadmomp\Chris, I believe the crystal bowl (third link) is by Houfbauer. Their forgotten about "Rose" pattern. Their Byrdes pattern is best known and most collected. --- Mike

Back from my hunting... a couple of interesting pieces, will have to research to be certain just how badly I've been gypped.

George & Lucy ... I'm certain I read somewhere that to qualify for Seller Protection you must have items that sold for $250 or more sent via registered mail.

quadmomp ... Hey guys, the first pic is KIG, not certain about the 2 item, but what about her third item the JIP blue thingy? Can't see the "stems" to it very well? Who made that?

quadmomp - yes totally typical because quality isn't as important as quantity. I've had numerous pieces of KIA and have always put them in the yard sale pile because I do better with them there.
