Donna - nah, nothing so dramatic. She's OK - just won't do anything to keep their 2 large dogs from using my front lawn as their toilet. She got REALLY Poed about me taking her to task over that and has now resorted to making false statements about me attacking her and such. Really bizarre :(

Good afternoone all... Just finished watching on the MLB channel the last 4 innings of Larsen's pefect game. Tonight, they're playing the 1965 WS game where Koufax shuts out the Twinkies.

I think I'll be cooking for just the 2 of us this year. Our best friends with whom we usually celebrate are in Philly where her Mom is in the final stages of cancer :(

on a more positive note the Haydron Super Collider has been restarted and may be back searching for the "God Particle" by the start of 2010. The 17 mile oval (think of a race track) will use almost 2,000 huge supermagnets to keep in motion a few itsy bitsy protons at almost the speed of light - each will travel around the 17 mile oval 11,000 times every SECOND. Then the scientists just wait for a particle from space to smack into one of the planted protons and they take readings of the results.

Sidenote: these tiny particles from space, just now arriving here from the big bang which created our universe, actually slice through our entire planet in a millesecond and don't lose any measurable speed or mass in the process. They are also slicing through our bodies many times a day but the holes they make through our body are too small for any molecule of our body to be affected..... we think :)

Nancy ~ Thursday we go into Cleveland to see my mom in law. She does not make a traditional turkey so my wife makes it on the weekend. Nothing fancy, just teh way my mom caught her how to make stuffing. tators and maybe a veggie. BUT one of my favorite dinners of all time.

Spent the morning preparing restraining order forms (reciprocating) against the gal renting the house next to me. New experience for us.

Carole left an hour ago to stay with friends on the other side - she's very scared and upset about all of this and it's affecting her health. She called 20 minutes later saying she's been turned back by what she thought was impending pass closure due to major snow. Just as she arrives home I90 over the mass is clear as a bell (no trucks allowed without chains) so now she's heading back out :)

Yep, bad listings by that seller using 2 IDs. Apparently each listing is for ONE negative/plate. Frankly it looks like he is using the ebay listings simply to advertise / promote that he has 32 of them for sale as a batch.

Good morning! Frank - we had a 3" snowfall on Saturday which has almost melted off now.

Winter forecasts for the Northwest are for warmer air resulting from the El Nino wind currents coming up from California. That will mean either a lot MORE snow this winter.... or it might mean a lot less snow (more rain). Nobody can predict which - depends on how strong the cold air masses from Canada are.

We had made a few good calls a few years back but our retirement plans took it on the chin. We were lucky enough not to have to take any out and hve come back a long way in the last year. Mostly paper losses and gains but still painful when you look at where they had gotten to.

What you do now may not be very speculative, but you do have to know where to go with the stuff. It's a lot like coins. A purchase is only a good deal if you can find a buyer.

I got out of those kinds of stocks well before the crash. Those crazy finance programs with balloon payments just didn't seem right to me. But I never thought it would be as bad as it was. A lot of dominos fell.

What I do now is not very speculative by nature. Smaller volume with higher margins. More work but I'm a one man show and can still set my own schedule.

No one saw this type of crash coming. We knew that certain markets had gotten crazy and had to correct but an almost total shutdown was not possible to see. The finiacial markets killed the housing market which fuels the lumber market. The paper industry still needs chips but not enough to get the timber market back anytime soon.

After 25 years of trading lumber I still have a lot of friends in the business. Some are starving on commission and a few are on salary and worring about keeping a job. I trade a few loads from time to time but nothing like the volume from years past.

It does take a while to get a feel for what a lot of items will trade for. After a few years of trial and error, I have learned where to go with most of the items I come up with.

The demand for lumber is so low now that I'm sure most of the larger mills are just cutting from their own tracts and buying almost no private timber.

Bet to answer your question, the price of wood is very low right now. Most items around 25 year lows with a few odd exceptions.

John, if the auction page is fine, then you've got some junk in the ol' hard drive - how long since you've defragged, and is your firewalls contract still good? I'm such a dweeb about computers, I don't know do to anything else.
Tommie - I know you've taken most of the presc. drugs on and off the current market, but whatever is safe is the best bet IMHO. Hey - whaddaya mean they're "like women beating you down" - I resemble that remark -hee hee!!
Bud - good going compadre - take it REAL easy, you don't want to undo the good work of your doc.
Because of my particular sitiation, I can't take aspirin, pain meds (kidneys), anything with salt (HBP), anything with sugar, honey, etc. (Diabetes) - so, my rule of thumb is - if it looks/tastes/smells good, throw it out! (oh, did I mention no cigs, booze, most meds of all kinds!!) - and the REALLY bad news is, I'm probably not going to heaven where I could once again have chocolate covered pretzels, I am going to the other place - oh wait - maybe Devil's Food Cake, yes??? AHHH HA!

r2 sounds more like spyware or malware. adaawre is pretty good and I jsut used advanced system care 3. it helped my pc a lot.

There's an item on eBay that I'm interested in and twice tonight Microsoft has closed my browser to protect my computer from "virus infection. It's also allowed me to bid a couple of times so I don't know what's going on. I'm sure the auction page is fine. I hope my computer isn't going senile because I would really hate to have to buy a new one.

Bud glad to here the progress.

donna percs are known to make you feel odd to like ****. I tried some from my wife, very little effect. Sad doctors are so geared to teh same meds over and over, mainly because they are adviced too. I take norco which is 1.5x as strong as teh narcotic in vicoden but only 325 tylenol. They add teh tylenol so you can not take to much without torching your liver. Norco is safer. They also make a variation with ibruprofen. Thats what those 2 numbers mean liek 5/500. Oddly enough with all the stuff I have tried the only thing that works for my headaches are aspirins. pain pills are liek women, some will beat you down and some make you feel great. :)~

Howdo!

Donna - I stopped all pain meds the 3rd night. I WAS surprised how worn out and beat up I felt for 3 days. I feel good now but I have to restrict activity, lifting, stairs, etc for another 5-6 days to avoid undoing the repairs.

It's a 2006. That's the last year they made them. Back in the days I hade a 1967 with a factory 8-track tape player and a his/hers shifter. I still kick myself for getting rid of the car. When Pontiac brought the GTO back in 2004, I decided to get one. By 2006 they had made subtle changes and all that. It was a toss up between a new 2006 or an older "original" GTO. Decided on the new one for reliability, safety and all those "smart" reasons. I've owned it for 4 year and have less that 1500 miles on it. I really should drive it more just to get my money out of it. Great car.

kathryn - yep, it sits kinda by itself above 5,000' in that particular section of the Cascade Mtns. It goes pretty vertical from that base up to 14,400'.

there are a LOT of points in the Greater Seattle area where you can see the mountain on clear days. My favorite views are on colder days - the steam rising from the crater (it's a living volcano) forms a stationary umbrella shape over the dome.

bud, i never realized Mt Rainier was such a solitary prominence, rather like Mt Fuji. photos i've seen always had stuff in the foreground that masked it's all-by-myself bigness, or seemed to have hints of other peaks nearby. but there's really NUTHIN' else, is there! my brother had a couple photos from the ferry they took to somewhere, and it was just, wow, dominating!!!

Had my bladder laser sliced and diced upon yesterday. All went as it should after I got past "Patrick" - my surgical prep nurse. Patrick's about 6'4" and perhaps 325 pounds - maybe 30 years old. Nice guy, but he had hands the size of hams and fingers the size of salamis. I should have first gotten a little concerned when he said he just finished his "Eastern State rotation" - meaning he’s recently out of nursing school and his last rotation was at the state psychiatric facility in Spokane.

Patrick put 5 holes and 2 hematomas in the back of my left hand trying to start an IV line (I have very pronounced veins - nobody's ever needed more than 1 attempt). After the 5th failure I finally asked him to get some help and Nurse Amy went to the other hand and popped the IV in within 10 seconds.

After that everything went off as it should. Had to stay for 3 hours after surgery (general anesthesia) and after 2 hours Vonda, the recovery nurse, came by and said Doc Gibbons authorized removal of the catheter - until then I still didn't know whether the catheter was staying with me for a week.

So now it’s me and my new good friend Percocet kicking back for a few days :)

bud.......as of today poker-edge, through their mathematical formulas to measure performance in every aspect of one's game, computes my abilities as that of shark (their top classification on a scale to 9).........i now have a downloaded snap shot of where i am with my game and can adjust if any part of it wanders away from "perfect" so that i can easily find where leaks are developing if/when they may try creep into my game......
