Hi Max, was just off emailing Luci.

I took pictures of my first wire wrapped piece. Will have to post it later. Not to bad for a first try. Enjoyed being creative. You should try it, it is not hard just a bit time consuming until you get basics. You can buy stones to wrap.

Have you collected any more mugs lately?

Good morning Irene, Chris, and Dave.

Found rotten yesterday, decided to take one of those over the counter sleeping aids. It worked.

No one put the coffee on this morning. No donuts. What a way to start the day.

Dave, don't you hate those jobs when they tell you ahead of time it's going to be a long work day.

Looks like another bad storm, but they don't seem to be quite clear what path it will take.

MEG there are two things about stamps, !. they should be closely centered. That means the border should be even all the way around for a Good collectors stamp..
2. If they are used or not.. Mint means they still have the original glue never hinged with tape, nor canceled.. There are some collector of used stamps with post marks.. Mainly Maybe because they could not afford the mint ones or just getting started in the hobby, and will used ones.
Nice for young kids to get started with used, canceled ones..
There is a Stamp board, if you really want some low down.. Shelly

Bill, while making lunch I was mulling over your comments about Mucha.
I have a book here somehwere about Oscar Wilde and Aubrey Beardsley, which touched upon that play, Salome, starring Sarah Bernhardt, and Beardsley did the designs and sketches for.
And now, I cannot recall if I ever saw that exact print on my mirror or not, in the book, lol.
Thinking about it, I believe the prints in the book were so like the print on the mirror, that I assumed it had to be a Beardsley work.
But y'know, - maybe it's by Mucha!

Back from lunch, and the dogs are happy, because for the first time in a long time, while making the sandwich, I did little dance steps around them.
(They lay on the floor just outside the kitchen, and I used to do little dances around their prone bodies, treating them as swords in a Scottish sword dance.
They seemed happy today, that things are back to normal, and they're being danced-around once more.

Hi Meg.
The newspapers of the time labelled Salome with descriptions such as, "Wilde's erotic play with Beardsley's decadent illustrations, and Bernhardt's disgustingly sensuous movements."

That play caused a major stir, and was taken off by the censors after just one or two performances.

Posted by   ( ) on Feb-08-10 at 17:54:01 PST   Listings
It's all coming back to me now: Beardsley designed the costumes for Oscar Wilde's Salome starring Sarah Bernhardt, and as Wilde, Beardsley and Bernhardt were all considered to be Bohemian and not 'very nice' people, the police were present, along with the censors.

Mum won't be living back in her home again: The government says that her high-care needs are beyond the scope of individual home care, and that she needs to be in a specialist high-dependency facility.
Post-stroke, I agree. The staff at these high-dependency places are all experienced in this kind of care, they have the technology and machinery necessary to carry out that kind of work.
There's at least one Registered Nurse always on premises, and a doctor calls daily.

The simplest bodily functions such as eating and toileting, are now major issues for Mum and her carers.
I think that even if the government had not taken the matter out of my hands, I would have had to say I could not do it here at home.

Gordon. You really did some research and hard work to find out "Who Dat". And being a fan of the losing team, I found out "Who Dat!" I certainly hope you do alright with your Mum. Your both in a bad situation and it's going to take a lot of work by you to help her. Some people would put them in a nursing home so they weren't a burden on the family! But thats what selfish family members do over here. Stay strong, and stay active. I love reading your posts on the board, and you've got a lot of support on here. Best of luck, Dan.

It's becoming increasingly clear that Mum is going to survive as a stroke victim, and I think we all know what a stroke victim looks like: Wheelchair, lolling head, slurred or no speech.
It's not a good way to be alive in my view, but as they can live without life support, they must stay alive, because the only alternative is to actively kill these victims, which is unthinkable, and I could not support such a thing.

Having said that, I know that Mum would hate being in this situation, and if she had the choice, she may not want to remain alive.
But, that's the way she is, and that's the way the situation is.

Non-medical people I've spoken to, say she'll probably be dead inside a year. The doctors themselves will not say such a thing. Not to me, anyway!

Here in Australia I had no idea of any particular significance to the term who dat, until the captain of the winning team appeared on one of our news shorts exclaiming breathlessly and excitedly, "we won this for the entire who dat nation".
And then it hit me that Susan's eBay ID has 'who dat' in it, and that her posts yesterday sounded as breathless and excited as the player's comments did.
So I did some googling on who dat and all became clearer.

Which means that Susan is obviously a very great fan indeed of New Orleans.
After seeing those terrible pictures of Hurricane Katrina, and being a jazz fan myself, I have to applaud yesterday's win, even though I know nothing about the sport, lol.

Good Afternoon Everyone

Linda, According to Lehner's Mark Encyclopedia that Mark is an out growth of Brush-McCoy. They don't give a date for that mark - (number 10), but it seems to be one of the latest. But wait for Chiquita to see if she can give you more information.

Linda, according to Kovells page 137F, that mark is for Brush Pottery, and was used in tow different eras: 1907 - 1908 and again between 1965 - 1972.

Meg someday you will understand. Why not ask your Dad to sell you the VW for a dollar and get his name off of it. Then you can do what you want. We wouldn't sign for our foster daughter to buy a car because even tho she is 32 now, she is still irresponsible. We had to force her to go out on her own and fend for herself or she would have been a child living at home forever. Not good for her or us.

Hi Again!

Meg your Dad is just worried about you. If you want establish your own credit, get a charge card and buy only 20-50 a month on it so you can pay it off every month, so there won't be any finance charges. After a year or so of doing that, your credit will be good and you can buy a new car on your own.Just don't spend more on it than you can pay.

Good morning everyone.

I am running so late, can't tell who has been here and left.

Luci, great to hear from you. I see that next storm, they say may head further north.

Meg, maybe Dad is just trying to protect you from pouring more money into VW, when economy is long way from improving.
He might feel that is only way to keep you from using money that could go for bigger emergencies. US parents think kind of odd at times.

Irene, I sometimes thing about getting small U-haul and fill it full of furniture when I head north. I hate to tow. They have the real wicker down here, dirt cheap yet. Would go sky high for summer cottages up north.

Chris, I am so good today. Finished up a big bowl of oatmeal. Nice cool 40* to start the day, but sunshine.

A chilly Good Morning from soon-to-be sunny South Carolina. As the song says, "nothing could be finer" - except maybe, to be a Saints fan in New Orleans. Party-Gras, anyone? I wasn't cheering either team, so it was truly a spectator sport, for me. Although it was funny to listen to my BIL and Iowa SIL who were pulling for the Saints and the Colts, respectively. DD1 offered that as long as the Patriots weren't playing, everyone was a winner. *Ouch* The food was tasty, the company was pleasant, and a good time was had by all.

Dan, because you asked: Click.

Gotta take DD3 to school in just a few; will be back for a little while, then I'll be Doing the Charleston with my sisters in law.

Meg,
If you have even a part-time job, this is the time to start trying to build credit on your own. Either talk to a bank (tho I've never had much luck there) or see if a friend will co-sign on a small loan with you. Pay it off quickly & start looking for other credit. Maybe a cell phone co. that has a no contract, monthly payment set up. Go to the web site that provides free annual credit reports & see what yours shows (the Fair Trade Commission governs the FCRA - https://www.annualcreditreport.com). HTH

Susan,
Thanks for the advice. It's just so hard. My own sister told me to drop the subject today, she said grow up!!! That is why I want to get this car on the road myself, not owe anyone anything right now. I have no money to even by a car. I know I must sound young to all of you. I will give a little background however, I am 26 I have not lived with my parents since I was 18. They still however treat me as if I have never grown up. They are always making decisions for me and always get me in some situation that restricts me from being "truly" on my own. I recently have not gotten thier help "money wise" with anything. Even though I pay for all these things, they are still in their name. Because of this I even have no credit. I paid for my ford all on my own, all 16,000 dollars in payments over the years. I guess I just do not know how to handle this. I am severely stressed out and will just have to think of the right things to say to him.

Meg - I can't help - never been in such a pickle. Is there somebody else in the family who could speak in your behalf? Maybe sit down & list the important points in your argument & send it in a letter explaining politely why you feel he's being unfair & ask him to come look at & maybe drive the bug? Hang in there girl.
Gordon - You were right the 1st time - it would be a boot. Haven't worn "heels" in so long I'd probably break my neck on the first step :) I'd have bet with Dan, but was watching the game on Bear's supersized TV & screeching like a demented owl. I don't even answer the phone during big football games or NASCAR races (which just happen to be starting up this week).
I was glad to hear your mum has stabilized somewhat. I'm sure that's a tremendous load off your shoulders. It seems like this might be a time to just "march in place" before making any plans or decisions about the future. It's early days still but I'm sure all of us are hoping for the best possible outcome for you, Mum & the puppies.

Shelly, I meant bring Mum here for a couple hours visit, "whenever".
Certainly not tomorrow or next week.
I know she'll no longer recognise her house, nor me, nor the dogs, and I know that bringing her here for an hour or two may never happen, as she can't walk anymore, and may not be able to talk neither, with the left half of her face frozen.
But hey, it's nice to think about these things, - just a bit of therapy, lol.

So, let me get this straight in my mind: What is it that Dan owes Susan?
A bottle of Bourbon St, and a Saints tee shirt?

OH LOIS that must be quite a draining experience shopping around for houses, and never knowing what you will run into.. I agree with Gordon, buy low sell high do not waste so much Energy in it that you barely clear a profit and wear your self out.. Shelly (so you can enjoy your retirement.)

CHRIS glad to see you sold your ring and the Relic.. Sorry your PB glass did not go higher..

GORDON so nice to hear that MUM is doing better, but for your idea to bring her home for a bit.. I do not think that a good idea. Would be nice for you, but might be traumatic for her, and cause more confusion.. I do not think now it would be a good thing to take her out of her present surroundings other then to get her settled in.. But I could be wrong, I am sure you would discuss it with her Docs first.. Now when they move her out of hospital I hope that it will be in a more permanent resident, and not still up in the air where she is going. I think that Chocolate Insure if you have it there, is a protein drink my Foster Mom drank a lot of when she needed nourishment.. Shelly

LOIS-wish you were down here in Orlando land. Our area is swarming with vacant houses. Shame-most built around 1980's. Nice big kitchens-back screened in back porches-3 bedrooms-2 baths. double car garages, big back yards. Bet they would go for a song. I could build a 4 bedroom house in my back yard. Too big.

LOIS--this hospital is 7 day adventist that believes in nutrition. I laugh. LOL They need me the GOURMAND to go in kitchen-slap some bacon and eggs in pan and ship out to those poor patients who loves bacon and eggs. LOL- then steak with big fat baked tater topped with gobs of pure butter-sour cream-bacon bits and chives. Got to have big ground pepper also-yes-omit the bit of sea salt. hahahah
